Rep. Dina Titus back from trip to Afghanistan
Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2010 | 10:54 a.m.
WASHINGTON -- Democratic Rep. Dina Titus returned this morning from a weekend trip to Afghanistan, where she met with military leaders on a fact-finding mission to learn more about the war effort.
Titus met with Gen. Stanley McChrystal, the top U.S. commander in Afghanistan, as well as troops with family members who live in her Southern Nevada district.
The congresswoman traveled to Kuwait on Friday and then spent the weekend in Afghanistan as part of a congressional delegation. Five other congresswomen were part of the delegation.
Titus has been reluctant to endorse President Barack Obama’s decision to send another 30,000 troops to Afghanistan.
When the president announced his decision in December, Titus said at the time: “I’m not taking a position. I deserve some time to study it myself.”
A Democrat who first ran for office in 2008 against the war, Titus now faces two potential Republican challengers with military credentials as she seeks re-election this fall. Republicans Joe Heck and Rob Lauer have both served in reserve units.

Why does she need to fly to Afghanistan?
My guess is that she bought her own ticket or maybe she flew coach. I wonder if this was billed to the fed or state government. Either way, I sure am glad we get to pay for it.
Dina has nothing to fear from a couple of weekend warriors.
I commend Representative Titus for her efforts to solidify our efforts in Afghanistan. Her visit to the American University of Afghanistan, and subsequent interviews demonstrated a depth of commitment to the School, the first to allow a full University education to the young women of their country. The basis of the Marshall Plan following WWII, recognized that the infra-structure and educational system were the keys to rebuilding a viable and peaceful society. This current effort which is reminiscent of the Marshall plan, is supported by our Congress and will bring opportunity for generations of Afghans to come. Rep. Titus' efforts, as well as others in Congress, have demonstrated political courage in their willingness to take up the belief that peace can only exist when education and opportunity coincide. As a Republican, I am impressed with her efforts in supporting the people of Afghanistan. Respectively, Rick S
