City to offer free business seminars

Friday, Jan. 15, 2010 | 5:04 p.m.

If you'd like to learn some basics about running a small business, the city of Las Vegas is planning another series of free seminars in February.

Because of an overwhelming demand for similar classes held this month, the city's Office of Business Development, in conjunction with the Adam Hodson CPA firm, will sponsor another series of free business seminars starting Feb. 4.

The first free presentation, which will focus on starting a company, will be held at 9 a.m. Feb. 4 at the Historic Fifth Street School in downtown Las Vegas, 401 S. Fourth St.

The presentation will include information on state and local business licensing, basic accounting requirements and saving money through acceptable tax write-offs.

On the following three Thursdays, Feb. 11, 18 and 25, the one-hour seminars will cover a variety of business-related topics including:

-- Basic Quickbooks training.

-- Advanced financial analyis, growth and cash-flow strategies for small business owners.

-- Effective marketing, branding and networking strategies.

Although the seminars are free, advanced registration is required. The seminar size will be limited to 40 people. Space is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Those interested in attending the first session will need to contact Darren Harris at 702-229-6862 no later than Friday, Jan. 29. Separate registrations for each class will be required at future dates.
