Communities In Schools of Nevada, an organization headed by Elaine Wynn, donated $1 million Thursday to Three Square, an organization that provides meals to needy people in the Las Vegas Valley.
The money will fund the “BackPack for Kids” Program, which provides bags of food to needy children in the Clark County School District for them to eat during the weekend. The money was donated by Wynn, the National Board Chairman of Communities In Schools, and her husband, Steve Wynn.
“This donation will greatly expand the program that provides food for children whose families have fallen on hard times,” Elaine Wynn said in a statement.
About 45.5 percent of children in the Clark County School District – or more than 140,000 students – receive free or reduced-priced meals.
