Metro officers arrest 173 during New Year’s celebrations

Metro Police made 173 arrests on New Year’s Eve, when more than 300,000 people are estimated to have visited the city.

Authorities said 103 arrests were in connection with driving under the influence.

Thirty-eight rung in the New Year by getting arrested for other various felony and misdemeanor charges and were booked into the Clark County Detention Center. Eighteen others were cited at the detention center and released.

Fourteen people were arrested and booked into the Las Vegas City Detention Center on various misdemeanor charges, officials said.

Between 6 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and 6 a.m. on New Year’s Day, there were 35 traffic incidents. None involved fatalities.

During 2009’s New Year’s celebration, Metro police booked 216 people into the Clark County Detention Center.
