CARSON CITY – The number of registered voters in Nevada dropped by 97,801 in 2009, according to the secretary of state’s office.
People who don’t vote in two elections and do not respond to correspondence from the county are removed from the active voter list.
Matthew Griffin, deputy secretary of state for elections, said there was a big push to register voters in the 2008, a presidential year. And the drive to re-register some of these voters has not started so far this year.
The office reported the number of active Democrats declined by more than 50,000 and Republicans lost nearly 30,000 voters.
There were 1,140,068 active voters registered on Dec. 31. But the breakdown of Democrat and Republican numbers were not available Monday.
Those who were removed will have to re-register to cast a ballot this election year.

Bad news for both Reids. It seems the Pelosi plan hasn't worked so well for Nevada.
Mandingo (Kunta Kinte) :
Would you please get off your black anger thing! It's unattractive. Not all whiteys are bad ya know.. In fact McCain had many black brothers in arms in the Hanoi Hilton Prison camp. Talk to your man Obama about voting right issues if you got 'em.
People have either lost the initiative to vote, based on poor selections of candidates, or is it due to so many Nevadans moving out of the State due to the poor economic conditions...hopefully not a significant number have lost their right to vote! I think it is voter apathy and our economy.
All the Civil War veterans were dropped from the voter registration rolls. It's all due to cutting funds to ACORN.
SufferinSuccotash :
That's great news! let 'em ALL leave and give us back our little town in the desert..
I say good. 2008 was the year of the uneducated voter. It seemed it was based on emotion and NOT logic. We are now in a huge damn mess over these newly elected officials with no light at the end of the tunnel. ACORN, a crooked organization formed to register Democratic voters and elect radical Democrats using tax payer monies are now busted and outed. Media biases and voter fraud was prevalent in several states all in order to get this poorly run administration and Congress in office. People have been used and our trust has been violated. People are extremely angered and disgusted. This administration has done nothing but ruled in an arrogant fashion and has divided our nation like never before. I hope most of the phony voters have left the state, they have left us in an economical mess that now has to be cleaned up.
Bet a huge percentage of that number is because Las Vegas and the whole State lost those who moved to other parts of the country....not because of voter apathy. When you move to another state, get a new driver's license and register to vote automatically (and yes, lots of people do that), obviously the last known address you voted at becomes null and void.
Note to environprotector:
Many who left Vegas didn't want to leave, but had no choice. So PLEASE get off your high horse. Many LIKED that "little desert town" but one can only live without a job for so long. You then have to move on.
Wish we could lose some of our uneducated Voters here in Oregon. The big mess has just started with the Mesiah wanna be. We have the republic of Eugene and Portland. Wish we were back to the days of Tom Mccall. That was the real environment man and Yes, He was a Republican. Best Wishes 2010, Nevada and everyone, just think.
I guess the Dems haven't figured out how to get the illegals registered yet.
Think again! The Democrats are going to come out strong and try to pass an amnesty...they need a new voting base...and they will do it all in the name of fixing a broken system and being humane! Be prepared...it is going to be the next big onslought by this Congress while they have the majority vote!
