Fatal collision
A three-vehicle collision Monday evening left one motorcyclist dead, another with serious injuries and a pickup truck driver jailed in connection with leaving the scene of the crash.
Metro Police responded to the crash at 8:13 p.m. at the intersection of Eastern and Maule avenues, which is south of Sunset Road adjacent to Sunset Park.
Investigators said two Yamaha motorcycles were traveling southbound on Eastern at a high rate of speed north of Maule. A 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche pickup truck was eastbound on Maule, stopped at a stop sign at Eastern, police said.
As the pickup turned into the southbound lanes of Eastern, it was struck by the 1999 Yamaha motorcycle, which fell onto its side and slid southbound on Eastern, police said. A 2001 motorcycle also fell over onto its side, authorities said.
The man on the 1999 motorcycle, identified Tuesday by the Clark County coroner's office as 20-year-old Aaron Bhim, of Las Vegas, was pronounced dead at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center's trauma unit.
The driver of the 2001 motorcycle, Sunil Chemmanoor, 20, Henderson, was at Sunrise with serious injuries, police said. The pickup truck driver is accused of leaving of the scene of the crash and was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on a charge of duty to stop at the scene of a fatal accident.
This is the 14th traffic-related fatality this year in Metro Police jurisdiction.

Let me guess. The driver of the pickup was a illegal with no license or insurance. Wouldn't be much of a surprise..
Ah, yes, another insightful comment from a local bigot.
Well, either it was an illegal or a drunk. Better yet another complete moron that this town seems to foster.
Let's revisit this when more details are available...I tend to agree with the illegal and documentation theory...ignorant people usually start yelling "racist" and "bigot" when they can't comprehend statistics....
Speed and recklessness still kills.
Unfortunately the pickup driver is at fault, in spite of the speeding motorcycle drivers who precipitated the entire incident. Now, all the local PI attorneys are hopeful they will receive a call from the grieving parents.
@RJDUDA - Most "RACIST" people try to use statistics to excuse their racist behavior. There are statistics across the bored for all type of people.
Why is it that when it is a metro officer speeding down the road and hitting a truck it is metro's fault, but when it is a young speeding punk it's the truck drivers fault?
@tt1978 - You aren't one of those "name callers" are you? I am a firm believer in "Overused" words...."Racist" being one of them. Why do close-minded people feel that "illegal" refers somehow to race, religion or class? Someone makes a "legality" assumpton based on probablity and statistics and then the racist and bigot names start to be thrown. Very typical for close-minded people. Oh, and may I ask your reference for your comment about racist people and their use of stats? But I do agree that there are statistics acros the BOARD for just about anything....
don't blame speed here people! I blame the truck for turning when it's not clear. I see so many people do that; they don't even stop at the stop sign but instead stick their bumper out into the street.
Rest in peace Aaron, your life was cut quite short. Hopefully Sunil will have a speedy recovery.
Come from whatever bias you want... the information given really only says that all three drivers failed to drive defensively. Beyond that, no fault can be deduced here. Motorcycles are hard to see and stopping when you have the right-of-way is still difficult for the best of us. I've had motorcycles speed out of nowhere on me and drivers pull out in front of me when I had the right-of-way and thought they saw me. Both situations are annoying/unnecessary and could've been mitigated (if not avoided) with a more realistic perspective of the potential for others to be unpredictable on the road.
tt1978: Was it politically incorrect for me to imply "recklessness?"
The charge is "FAIL TO STOP AND RENDER ASSISTANCE..." after the accident occurred. Why didn't the truck driver stop?????? What kind of moron are they???? Oh, I get it....if the bikers had been riding at a slow rate of speed and the accident occurred, the driver would have stopped, right? Sheeeeesh!
Stop speeding! I see it all the time. Young people on motorcycles and driving cars like a bat out of hell. The truck driver took off. Arrest him now. I'll reserve further judgement until I get more details. I just better not hear "no license, no insurance"....
The idiot in the truck probably wouldn't have been at fault according to these details. The fact that he left the accident got him arrested. He probably doesn't have a driver's license or valid insurance though.
For those saying young people on motorcycles are a problem - I see more old men on Harleys acting like idiots than I see young kids on sport bikes.
Bikers like myself are not neccessarily punks. 2 thoughts about this trajic event,Bikers must anticipate stupid drivers, who don't have a clue about driving safe. And auto drivers have to realize, that the time of the season for more bikers are here.Get out of town bikers, if ya wanna crank em up alittle. And Auto drivers, please be aware of responsible bikers.
Once again people blaming the rider! This is bs bikes have the same right away as cars, but you people in cars donot care enough to pay attension. All you people bashing the rider would be singing a different tune if it was one of your loved ones. My regards to the family. Upon1wheel
Let's face it....when we see vehicles WAY in the distance on a street with a 45 mph imit we generaly can gauge timing, let's face it, we can all gauge....BUT, when there are two idiots travelling at a high rate of speed, we NORMALLY aren't expecting that so we proceed accordingly. Had those bikers been going a decent rate of speed this likely would NOT have happened. So, the truck driver was made part of the accident just by being there. However, I hold him totally responsible for leaving the scene....which brings me back to the point about him having something to hide.....
I find it amazing that everyone is proclaiming it is either the biker's fault or the driver's fault, even though there is nowhere near enough information listed in this article to determine who is primarily to blame.
Drivers need to be careful and pay special attention when pulling out in front of people (especially bikers) to turn.
Bikers need to ride defensively, anticipate people pulling out in front of them, and bear in mind that they are not exempt from speed limits.
Everybody should own a motorcycle that runs 190 MPH. Especially good for in town riding, like when a pesty cop on a Harley wants to stop you.
I would like to say that I am so sorry Aaron, and for your family. I knew Aaron. He was a great kid who always had a big smile on his face. He graduated from Brawley High School in the Imperial Valley. Aaron held a job at Von's while going to school. He was not a "punk". He was kind and did kind things for others. He was a good student and good worker. The driver of the truck is the "punk" he is the one who left the sceen while Aaron died there on the street. Why would a good person do that? I know that Aaron would have stopped and given aid if he were the one in the truck. I am so sorry to Aarons sisters and family. Rest in peace Aaron. 350 Z lady.
Helmets and pick ups who hit and run. Why>?
There isn't anything wrong with popping a wheelie, and they are actually really sick. However, popping one up on public surface street is wrong, especially when there are many prime private locations for stunting. These kids weren't stunting though, so I'm not sure why that was brought up.
This stretch of road has a middle lane that anyone can use when turning from another road, business, park, etc. These lanes help drivers avoid accidents! Use them! Also, I see about 15 to 20 cars when I'm driving home without their lights on. Granted the streets are lit up to the point where you don't need your lights to see but other drivers need your lights to see you!
Kenoman1956 maybe one day you will be reading qbout me on here maybe tou wont but all i gotta say is alot of these motorcyclists are my friends and some considered family, i love my bikes and will never stop riding i risk my life but its my choice but i dont need some idiot to help me by not paying attension and pulls out in Front of me, havent died yet but there is alot of cars missing mirrors and a few people missing teeth. And anytime a motorcycle is involved in an accident the witneses always say "they were speeding" not always the case some times it just looks like were speeding, just wAtch for bikes we have familys too
Two words - natural selection
All of you need a life and need to stop coming to unrational conclusions.
Don't be attacking people if you don't know the full story. And have a heart.
Yes they shouldn't have been racing but someone just lost their life
and the person that caused it ran away. I dont know how people can just
watch someone die and leave. What if it was your friend brother sister uncle mother, whoever. You wouldn't want people talking mess bout them right so be respectful and quit. That's something Americans DO NOT have r e s p e c t. The guy is gone for gods sake. Let him rest in paradise. If you really don't have anything nice to say then don't even say it at all.
Rest in paradise Aaron!!
Sheez, here we go again trading insults instead of commenting on the article. High rate of speed on a city street is asking for trouble, you don't have enough time to react to the idiots pulling out in front of you.Who cares if the driver of the truck was illegal or not, the fact is the motorcylist was traveling at a high rate of speed and knew better than to do that.I hope the other rider learned a lesson in all this.
