A Pahrump foster parent has been arrested, accused of sexually assaulting one of his foster children, the Nye County Sheriff’s office said today.

John Bivens, 62, was arrested Feb. 17 on charges of sexual assault with a child under 14 and lewdness with a child under 14, sheriff’s office spokesman David Boruchowitz said.

The state Division of Child and Family Services removed the children in Bivens’ care and placed them elsewhere, authorities said.

Bivens was booked into the Nye County Detention Center, but has since posted bail. He will appear in Pahrump Justice Court at a later date.
