Reader poll
Starting the week out with a third consecutive loss was enough to drop the UNLV men's basketball team (20-7 overall, 8-5 Mountain West) from the radar of the AP voters.
For the Rebels, it was the first time in five weeks in which they did not receive votes in the AP top 25 poll.
In the ESPN/USA Today coaches poll, Lon Kruger's club still received eight votes.
After falling at Utah on Wednesday, 66-61, UNLV snapped a two-week drought by slamming Colorado State on Saturday afternoon at the Thomas & Mack Center, 70-39.
It was the first of the Rebels' four games to close out the regular season against teams below them in the Mountain West standings. That run continues at 8 p.m. Wednesday against TCU at the Mack.
Elsewhere in the league, New Mexico became the second conference team — along with BYU — to crack the AP's top 10 this season, checking in at No. 10 after escaping from Air Force on Saturday in the Pit, 59-56. They found themselves two spots lower in the coaches poll at No. 12.
The Lobos now are 25-3 overall and 11-2 in the Mountain West. They'll host Colorado State on Tuesday before a potentially epic second meeting with BYU on Saturday in Provo.
The Cougars also are 25-3 overall and are 10-2 in MWC play after winning two games last week by a combined margin of 63 points. They rose to No. 13 in the AP poll and actually are ahead of New Mexico in the coaches poll at No. 11.
The top five in both polls was consistent, with Kansas again taking the top spot, followed by Kentucky, Purdue, Syracuse and Duke. Checking in at No. 6 in both polls is UNLV non-conference opponent Kansas State.
