Hawaiian Tropic Zone inside Planet Hollywood
Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2010 | 2:07 p.m.
The Hawaiian Tropic Zone at Planet Hollywood’s Miracle Mile Shops will close its doors permanently this coming weekend.
A spokeswoman for the Miracle Mile Shops said a new concept will be moving into the space, but she wouldn't elaborate on Wednesday.
A representative from the Hawaiian Tropic Zone said the restaurant-nightclub will be open all day Saturday before closing early Sunday morning. A manger or owner wasn't available to comment on the reason for the closure.
The Hawaiian Tropic Zone opened in January 2008. The restaurant, bar and nightclub has direct access to Las Vegas Boulevard.

Aloha...
Their food was sub-par at best and the pricing of that food was terrible. Not a big shock here that they went under.
It will be interesting to see what landlords will start charging tenants on the Strip.
Because these outrageous rents are being passed along to the consumer and eventually the consumer says they've had enough and don't go to overpriced restaurants with second rate food.
Eventually the landlords can't get anybody to rent these spots zoned for restaurants/bars because the costs of the high rent can't be passed on to the consumer.
They say the market corrects itself, we shall see.
Zzzzzzzzz.
As an occasional visitor to Vegas, I can say that there are a gazillion bars like this one throughout the Strip properties.
It's time someone came up with a new concept bar, besides the obligatory sports bars with bikini clad waitresses (not that I'm complaining!).
well, they had a good run. for 13 months.
MANY, MANY more such closing in the future---I can't believe any of the "nightclubs" are still open in these casinos. $2000 for "bottle service" so you can have a seat and a 20 bottle of wine--HEY EXECUTIVES---stop trying to rape the customers and they will come in droves and play and lose in the casino you freakin morons! yes the old formula works if you stop robbing the customers---6/5 blackjack--great idea, casino war and rapid roulette, $400 dollar cabanas--all great executive ideas to rip off the customers so your screw them once, and they NEVER come back! WAKE UP YOU IDIOTS
MrLucky is completely right! Stop ripping off the customer so much and you will see Vegas come back stronger than ever!
How about a bar that caters to 30-50 year old men and women that enjoy a modest priced drink, 70's,80's cover music and a relaxed atmosphere where you can actually hold a conversation. Stand on the strip and watch who walks up and down all day and night. These people have absolutely nowhere to go. I would rather get $100 from 500 couples a night that will come back every year than 3 broke idiots that spend $1,000 on a bar tab and a bunch of hangers on watching them spend money buying one drink for themselves.
As long as bars/restaurants like Hawaiian Tropic remains overpriced, we'll see similar establishments close down in the near future.
I agree 100% with geedidy
With geediddy on this one, if I want to be surrounded by d-bags, I'll vacation at the Massengil factory.
Obama should be happy.
One less place for citizens to blow their cash in Vegas.
i went here for a business dinner and even though it was "corporate plastic" paying for it, i thought it was a total rip-off.
would have been happier at golden corral.
we're in an era of instant communication with facebook and twitter and bad word-of-mouth spreads at light speed.
this is the free-market system at work.
no bail out, no more loans.
bad product = you close.
the nightclubs stay in business because there are A LOT of dumb people in the 21 - 25 year old range and anyone dumb enough to WANT to be in the same room with kevin federline is dumb enough to pay $400 for a bottle of vodka.
i like the fact we have a tax on stupidity. it's called "bottle service".
geediddy...the place you want to go is the peppermill. it's perfect for what you want. it was my "hang" when i lived in vegas.
Took one of the 2-4-1 coupons they are always passing out and went in for a drink - margarita for me and daiquiri for Mrs. Steves - $20 a piece - I had to get two of each (yes - one was free but $40 Plus was spent and it wasn't clear I had to get 2 drinks per person). The waitresses were pretty - just like everywhere - and it was my last visit ever to the place. If they weren't 2-4-1 I couldn't even believe the prices - it's not like this is a nightclub - it is a bar/restaurant. Whoever has a new concept should realize that the old concept was doomed from the start.
People who go to Strip nightclubs aren't going to see Kevin Federline - even if he is "hosting" - they are going there to meet people for love and sex. If you are married and/or 45, you aren't their target market. These nightclubs will go away when sex goes away.
As for HTS, it was another MOR franchise; it had little to do with nightclubbing or bottle service. There are plenty of places to go that don't have bottle service; get creative.
Did anyone in that entire mall make money?
Bye Bye....
As for all you "economists" who want cheap stuff in these buildings I have a wake up call for you:
Go downtown or to the older properties on The Strip. It IS cheaper there. The newer spots paid WAY too much for the land and construction and now have to charge WAY too much to rent the space and pay back the loans. That's why your Bud Light is $6+. Why do you think a beer or a hot dog at a ball game is just as expensive... as you sit in a new, billion dollar stadium with players that make tens of millions? Oh, and then there is this thing called Union Wages... You want affordable beer, food and entertainment? There are plently of dumpy "local" casinos. What's that saying..."You get what you pay for." There are plenty of choices out there. You aren't entitled to anything. Go find it for yourself.
Vegas is doomed.
Hey geedidy: I completely agree with you the problem is that young people between the ages of 21 and 35 really do not have the kind of money that those corporate hacks think that they have and don't. If that allowance that mom and dad gives most of them drys up then those $500.00 bottles of vodka stay sitting back in the stock room. And at least half the woman in there at any given time are hookers' I mean come on who can afford all that' Unless of course your living on the underground economy.
you all day bloggers have no clue what's going on.
Mahalo ... LOL
It was more like Hawaiian Flopic Zone, with a nice addition outdoor patio view of CityCemetary being built.
But hey, with all the overpriced venues around, as long as you enjoy them, while enjoy getting ripped off, thats all it matters.
All I can say is : Not on my dime.
Mahalo
I never associated 'Hawaiian Tropic' with a restauant or a club for that matter before.
it's for the best...the lovely ladies of hawaiian tropic can do much better than harrah's.
I never had the food at HT, but I went in on my last visit with the 2 for 1 coupons and I had no complaint. I think we went in during their "happy hour" and the drinks were poured well and it wasn't that expensive at all. There's always another place to go but it's sad that more people will be out of work.
