WASHINGTON - President Barack Obama will be returning to Las Vegas next week to visit with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, business leaders and residents about the economy, sources confirmed today.
Obama will have a couple of events next Friday as he showcases the work he and Reid are doing together to address the economic challenges facing Nevada.
The trip is not expected to include a fundraiser specifically for Reid.
The president is expected to arrive Thursday and stay overnight in Las Vegas prior to the Friday events.

There are jobs in Las Vegas. Look on the jobs page with this newspaper. You may not get a job in a casino but there are jobs. Nevada can't afford to extend unemployment forever. I just got a job after 7 months being off. It is not in my field and not my dream job, but it will help with the bills. Keep pounding the pavement. We ALL saw this coming for months now!! What was it everyone figured - by March the layoffs would start? Blame the casino honchos for the layoffs. The bottom line is more important then your jobs.

Why can't this President (as well as former ones) realize that fund-raising and other electioneering while in office results in a noticeable conflict of interest. Obama's job is to run the country efficiently and get it out of this deep recession. It appears that this trip to Las Vegas is not about his presidential duties, but to bolster a fellow Democrat and likely to return a favor to Reid. Because of that perception, any speech by the President will seem to be just empty words telling Nevadans what he thinks they want to hear.

Welcome to America politics, our system is flawed and has been for years.
Elected officials don't work; they flap their lips and speak out their bunger. They haven't worked for years and come election time, they spent the year in front of the cameras telling us even more lies about themselves and the messed up part, we pay them to boast about nothing and lie directly into the camera.
We do believe this year will be turning point for America. Liberals have desecrated us for too long and we are having too many more hours to support their lunatic policies. America is full of illegal immigrants and freeloaders who expect everything to be given to them on a silver platter and gold spoon shoved up the hind. We're sick of them and we're going to let them know this year and in 2012, providing Obama lasts that long in office; which most don't believe he will, he's too stupid and is a disgrace to our country. He has failed every step of the way. The change he promised is neither what we asked for nor what he told us, he is a pathological liar and a poor excuse of a human being.
Some of you people are quite comical. I don't live in Vegas, but I am a frequent visitor, so maybe I have a little different perspective.
I'm am truly sorry for anyone who's lost or is losing their job, but to lay the blame solely at the feet of the current president is just plain wrong. Obama may have his faults, but say he's the worst president ever because he isn't able to magically overnight resolve the horrible economic situation that he inherited just shows how out of touch with reality and unrealistic some of you are.
To suggest that people aren't coming to Vegas because Obama said they shouldn't is laughable. Less people are coming because less can afford it right now.
And by the way, he's right. People in tight financial situations shouldn't be taking trips to Vegas...or Disneyland...or anywhere. Obviously Obama wasn't singling out Vegas as a place not to go, but you have no one to blame but yourselves for the fact you were used as the example. For years you've built your city up as THE place for excess, oppulence and over-the-top spending. That was a fine image to cultivate in the boom years, but it doesn't fit so well now.

Yes, we've allowed the liberals to damage us from within, our own elected officials. The county commissioners have desecrated our fabulous city into the cesspool of freeloaders. They've bled us dry; they've filled our county with illegal immigrants and enabled their voting pool to migrate from the inner projects into once clean neighborhoods. People have over spend in the last few yaers and lived high on the hog insted of conserving a little. People was buying everything they could get there hands on. I moved here 7 yrs ago and just bought a house that I can afford, I didn't over spend and buy that house that was way over my budget a few yrs ago back like some of you did. BTW - EVERY recent President has used a teleprompter. Did you really think Bush Jr. could remember everything he used to blab on about? Even with a teleprompter, he would sound like a fool at times and you couldn't understand what he was blabbing on about. Which is worse: a teleprompter or writing notes on your hand....for everyone to see? Gone are the days of little index cards with your notes on it - teleprompters are just part of present day technology.

We'll break this down for you, Obama promised to rebuild America's Infrastructure and maintain unemployment at or below 8%, he lied and he is a liar along with the rest of the liberals. The facts speak for themselves; the liberals with Obama spent $747,000,000,000.00 on welfare and social programs and $38,000,000,000.00 rebuilding our infrastructure. Has they done what they set out to do, our economic recovery would be well under way and many American families would be in their homes.
The last thing we need is Obama here, he is a pathological liar and not a very good one at that, he is a good example why our system is broken and has been broken for years. Affirmative action is a liberal program that we the taxpayer are forced to fund. Based on Obama, it is now a proven fact that this program doesn't work and their politics don't work and are based nothing but fear mongering to their voting pool. A short note to the WH advance (policy/procedures)team: Most residents welcome any presidential visit. The posters on this site - many of them - are disgruntled with any form of government. President Obama, as head of state, is wrongly blamed for everything coming out of DC. Nothing new about that. The whole mess with some of these posters is the president's recent remark (in NH) about buying boats and spending college savings in Las Vegas. His remarks made sense and most people in Las Vegas appreciate his intent. Advise: Obama has nothing to apologize for - or even make reference that could only fuel the smouldering embers of these racist retirees. The economic policies of previous administrations and congress are more answerable than Obama. Las Vegas will survive and do nicely long before the rest of the nation. People are angry and it is valid. They forget we live in a semi-capitalist structure. They forget that the government is charged with protecting the nation through our military might and educational opportunities. Nevada and especially Las Vegas refused to diversify - and in some ways that will not change. It is a shame as the state has so much to offer over and above the gambling and mispercieved care-free, tax-free offerings.
I welcome President Obama's visit as do most Nevadans. Perhaps he might continue to cite the solar power energy capacities that Nevada can offer our entire nation, as well as our state directly. Intelligent opposition should and must be welcomed. Emotional outbursts only cause delay and confusion.

Its time for President Obama to keep paying unemployment checks to all until he is able to get the unemployment rate back under 4 per cent.
We all enjoyed 4 per cent unemployment we all enjoyed for over 20 years. He now boasts when unemployment is over 10 per cent - well its better than we thought, he currently said. Obviously he has no idea how bad it is.
Its time for Obama to stop blaming and start to work - something he seems incapable of. He seems to just point fingers.
In short, Obama - its time for you to start working instead of reading your speeches. Your wife keeps on telling us all to send our last $ out of the country; how many times do we need to see her do this. I still don't know why you spent millions of dollars for a Super Bowl Ad - this ad was paid by tax payer money and the message was not very clear in the ad. I think it had something to do about the census - in the past, you could get free coverage from the media to cover such events. Why must I now work harder so you can buy super bowl ad time using my tax dollars?
We do feel sorry for the country - but when will Obama and his wife start to realize there are real issues here in America.
Its time for him to put a plan in place where unemployment is under 4 per cent by the end of the year. If not, his resignation might be in order.
Why can he get away with such poor job performance when those who have jobs have had pay cuts, longer hours, and are always worried if this is the last day on the job.
Its time for Harry Reid and Obama to start earning their pay check. If they can't come up with plans, dock them their pay and ask them to resign.
Obama should realize he needs to start to take only $1.00 a year salary till he starts to actually do something.
Also for those who keep on saying things were so bad the past 20 years, more people had jobs during those years than under the Obama administration.
He now forecasts unemployment will be 10 per cent or higher for the next 6 years.....Ugh! He has failed the American people. He needs to set a goal of 4 per cent or less by October 2010.
If not, there are three things that must happen:
1) Obama resigns - he failed his probation period.
2) Harry Reid is voted out of office and the American people vote to take any retirement pay, bonus pay, etc. from him and his family. He should only get normal unemployment pay for 6 months. No government perks - he does not desserve them.
3) Vote any incumbent out of office - who has not made 4 per cent unemployment a reality. For this year only, no government retirement plan or perks. Any person and their staff who is voted out of office only gets normal unemployment pay.
Its time for government to realize how they make us all suffer.

It seems that the conservative base has become a bunch of kool-aid drinking cry babies. The dems might not be getting it right, but the republican party is just as much to blame. They're more interested in making Obama look bad than actually working to make things better for those it's supposed to be serving. Of course making him look bad means doing everything they can to keep legislation get passed - legislation that MIGHT actually do some good for some people.

All these politicians do not care about the american people, they only care for your vote.

Obama is comming to Las Vegas.So what good is that going to do.The President was just here a few months ago and that purpose is still unknown.
Well maybe he will take a tour of the whole valley and see how bad the economy has impacted the valley and the State of Nevada.
I would really love to sit down with him and tell him what I have seen since moving here one year ago.I can not believe how much unemployment is here in Las Vegas.The foreclosure rate here in Nevada is astounding.The bankruptcy rate is ridiculas.The commercial and residential construction is at a almost complete halt.
I would love to take the figures from the LV Tourist and Convention Beauru and show him the impact of his derogatory comments of Las Vegas had immediatly after he made them.I would really love to show him reality of an American Sociaty in dire straights. President Obama I believe is being fed false information.I really do not believe he truly knows what is going on.
For example City Center they,MGM,was the savior of the City of Las Vegas but they have had little impact on the jobless rate here in
Las Vegas.A good portion of the jobs filled at City Center were transfers from their other properties and 90 percent of the actual new hires for MGM/City Center are part time jobs with no benifits.Oh that is right!!! The President is bringing on a healthcare bill to off set.Well sorry to tell you guys but part time does not cut it when it comes to paying the bills.Mr.President ask the gaming corperation MGM this,Of the jobs that were transfered from their other properties how many were of those positions were refilled by hiring someone else.
Then get one of your pencil pushers to calculate the offset figures and actually see how many jobs were actually created by City Center.President Obama also check with the other Gamming Corperations on the amount of jobs that were refilled when their employee left to go to City Center.If we saw these figures we would probably find that the actual impact of City Center is closer to zero then we would expect.
And look at the layoffs City Center has actualy had since they opened.Oh that is right part time jobs are not actually layoffs just cut backs and those loses are not able to be calculated because they were not elgible for unemployment benifits.
Las Vegas is in a really bad situation right now and the only fix is the strip casinos and buisnesses truly help out and do the right thing.
Obama has been an absolute disaster for our state. He is here to save his lap dog senator from getting fired by the people he is suppose to be representing. Obama is not welcomed here.

wow, i didn't realize that people would be so offended by the president coming to the state. W. bush never even stepped foot here. my family is scraping by just like everyone elses. is it easy, no. but i remain greatful for what i do have and don't lay the blame at the presidents feet. i support him because is heart is in the right place, he wants to help us but we have to be willing to help ourselves.
