Gov. Jim Gibbons announced early this evening that he will sign the official proclamation on Tuesday next week calling for a special session of the Legislature to begin Feb. 23.
Gibbons already had announced the date of the session Monday during his State of the State address. Lawmakers will meet to debate a budget that has come up $881 million short.
The delay between his call for the session and his signing the proclamation also allows Gibbons, Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki and members of the Legislature to continue to accept campaign donations.
Nevada law bars collecting campaign funds from the day after the governor issues a proclamation for the special session until 15 days after the Legislature adjourns.

And to last exactly how long?
Thats funny!!!!! Does he have any campaign funds? He used taxpayer money to campaign when he gave his stupid of the state speech!!!! He is really expecting campaign funds from someone? When he signed the proclamation, did they check to make sure he signed it on the right line and hopefully he didn't have to check a box somewhere!!!!!!!
Opposition to state's critical cost survey. You don't have to choose the options leadership gave you. Write your Congressmen and legislative representatives with your own ideas.
The man stood resolute to his fate before the administrator of the land,
"I have to do this," the administrator said. "I have no other choices. Where would you like to be cut? Would you like the cut across neck, the wrist, or across your stomach?"
Leadership suggested cuts of 6%, 5% , or a 4.2%.
I am not convinced that the only options we have are narrow ones in the box leadership drew. We are taxpayers and voters. We have other valid ideas.
State Lottery
A state lottery. The only reason that hasn't happened yet is because of big gaming lobbyists.
Gasoline Tax
A 10-cent per gallon gasoline tax. A "tax" via furloughs for 16,000 or a gasoline tax on 2,600,000+ people in Nevada. Which makes more sense?
Tax Prostitution
Legislators do not wish to "legitimize" prostitution. They have business licenses, operate legally in their counties, then they are already legitimate. Tax them.
Contract Employees
Contract workers hired from staffing agencies for 3x the wages of a full time state employee? Hire qualified full-time workers for the jobs at pay within job specifications.
Lost are our cost of living increases, merit increases, insurance costs have risen, and we've taken furlough days. These survey questions were offensive and not pertinent to saving state revenue within employee's payroll. We have valid ideas. Those ideas are not within a survey asking five questions regarding age, sex, salary range, and giving our "body" three places to receive a fatal cut.

Sorry, I'm a newbie
Wow, when looking at Jim Gibbons, we now know what we got when he was elected Governor. He is just another weak politican. Nevadan's should look for an Executive like Mike Montandon. Mike has 12 years experience as Mayor of North Las Vegas, far more experience than anyone running for Governor. He has a plan for our economy and education. Not just " gift certificates" for teachers.
