Motorcyclist dies in collision with car on residential street

Monday, Feb. 1, 2010 | 10:18 p.m.

Fatal collision

A Las Vegas man died Monday evening after his motorcycle slammed into the rear of a car on a residential street in the western valley, authorities said.

Metro Police responded at 5:24 p.m. to the crash on Lorenzi Street south of Bremerton Circle. That location is southeast of the intersection of Rainbow Boulevard and Alta Drive.

Investigators said a 2007 Nissan Altima was northbound on Lorenzi as two motorcycles, also traveling northbound, were approaching the Nissan from behind. The first motorcyclist passed the Nissan on the left and continued northbound, authorities said.

The 41-year-old rider of the second motorcycle failed to decrease his speed to avoid the Nissan and struck the vehicle from behind, authorities said. He was taken to University Medical Center's trauma unit, where he died shortly after his arrival.

The victim's name wasn't being released late Monday pending notification of family. The two occupants of the Nissan weren't injured, police said.

This is the 10th traffic-related fatality this year in Metro Police jurisdiction.
