Fatal collision
A Las Vegas man died Monday evening after his motorcycle slammed into the rear of a car on a residential street in the western valley, authorities said.
Metro Police responded at 5:24 p.m. to the crash on Lorenzi Street south of Bremerton Circle. That location is southeast of the intersection of Rainbow Boulevard and Alta Drive.
Investigators said a 2007 Nissan Altima was northbound on Lorenzi as two motorcycles, also traveling northbound, were approaching the Nissan from behind. The first motorcyclist passed the Nissan on the left and continued northbound, authorities said.
The 41-year-old rider of the second motorcycle failed to decrease his speed to avoid the Nissan and struck the vehicle from behind, authorities said. He was taken to University Medical Center's trauma unit, where he died shortly after his arrival.
The victim's name wasn't being released late Monday pending notification of family. The two occupants of the Nissan weren't injured, police said.
This is the 10th traffic-related fatality this year in Metro Police jurisdiction.

41 yrs old, he should know better than ride like an idiot on these streets. RIP.
Motorcylist are like that all over the country, ziping in and out of traffic 10-30 miles above the speed limit. Retire Postal Truck Driver 30 yrs no accident.
It wasn't the crash that killed him it was the great treatment he received at University Medical Center.
It's always the same old story the victim didn't die till after they arrived at UMC.
They probably took that side street to avoid the traffic that's always backed up at Charleston and Rainbow.
The car was probably doing the usual 15mph crawl while they were on the phone or doing something other than normal driving I see it all the time in that neighborhood and not just there but allover this town.
The cycles probably weren't speeding it was probably that the car was going way to slow because that's only about 250ft before the stop sign at Alta and that's under construction all through there.
Rizzo, what are you smoking? Get a clue.
sounds like the Nissan slammed on his brakes for some reason, and one of the riders just had better reactionary reflexes than the unfortunate guy who lost his life..
I agree with Rizzo. Dumb cars are always stopping for no reason.
Next time a car stops for no reason, I'm just gonna plow my big rig into them.
I hope there's a DUI case pending here.
Mitzy,
You're an idiot plain and simple.

Generally speaking, I would trust a motorcyle rider much more then I would trust someone in a car. It's easy for someone sitting in their air conditioned car yakking on the phone, playing with their radio and stuffing their face with food to criticize someone riding their motorcycle in a way they don't agree with. The skill set needed to ride a motorcycle is much greater then is needed to drive a car. In most states it is perfectly legal to share a lane while passing cars stuck in traffic.
The man who died was my cousin. I was very sad to hear the news this morning. My heart goes out to his brother and my uncle. Rest in peace, Shane.

thats y thay take my comment off here cos thay know im right
(Quote from cindy )I'm really sorry to hear that this happen to a really good friend of mine. and to all of you nieve people in this town, i really wish you guys would open your eyes to what really goes on around here. You authorities expect everybody to follow the rules and yet you cant manage to follow your own rules!!!!
It is a matter of Physics, when the force of a smaller mass encounters that of a larger mass... A motorcycle/auto accident very seldom has a happy ending, and this one is solemn and sad. Thinking of all those summertime adventures at Grandma's and Maple Canyon.
Shane was also my cousin. I was sad to hear this news. My heart goes out to my Uncle and Shane's brother, as well as the rest of the family.
My kids were there when this man died, they were the ones parked on the side of the road and getting ready to leave.. They heard the bikes coming and saw the man hit the back of the car with his head .. the bike spun and he was on the ground.. My kids ran to him and touched him and thought he was dead at the time but did not check his pulse they were scared to death. The police came up and one officer said "that's what you get for running from the police" real smug and there are cops everywhere many laughing saying we got him.. you got a dead man not due to your police tactics .. Not one cop went to help him or shared any kindness for a man either dead or dying. I'm completely disturbed by this and please don't think I'm some sort of cop hater far from it. I don't think there was anything this man could of done to deserve death and I just wish if he had to die there was more compassion around him and not just from my children. It's a damn shame, many blessings to you and your family may the angels wings wrap around you.
Motorcycles never win in accidents, never. I've been riding motorcycles for over 30 yrs, the best thing I ever did was take the class at CSN on Motorcycle safety. They really dont teach to ride you need to already know how to do that, they teach you to ride safe and they change your attitiude about your motorcycle in traffic. If everyone who rides would take that course you'd see a lot less accidents involving Motorcycles.
No mention of wearing a helmet. He hit the car from behind so it sounds like he was going to fast to react. Can't blame the driver of the car. When you ride a bike s@#* happens.
I'm reading the responses after mine, baffled I am.. He was running from police so yes he was going fast along as his partner who got away as far as I know.. either they were racing and then the police started to chase them or they were involved with something..I don't think taking a course has anything to do with it, for real pay attention.. sorry annoyed
And yes he was wearing a helmet but when going at that rate of speed and going head on, it really doesn't help
You people are messed up! That man was my uncle. He didnt deserve to die no matter what the situation was. He was a good kind hearted man that always kept his word. He was more of a man than all of you. People these days are sick. When anyone dies it shouldn't be treated as a it was their fault thing or they deserved it thing, You wouldn't treat the death of any of your relatives like it was their fault or that they deserved it. Have some respect for other people and their families and keep your opinions to yourself. I'm 16 and even I know you don't go around saying stuff like that. None of you knew my uncle shane, and if you did you wouldn't be leaving rude comments, you would be crying along with his family and everyone who knew him as a friend. None of you have any idea of what even happened so don't go around saying stuff that's hurtful and rude. I hope you guys get your karma for saying such rude stuff about such a great man. And whoever said something about a DUI, your an idiot. He wasn't drunk or anything. Don't go around saying stuff like that about other peoples family members. Would you want that said about any of yours? You people are all ridiculous. I hope you all get what you deserve. Except the nice people :) only the rude ones.
