The Bishop Gorman High basketball team was defeated 58-52 Thursday by DeMatha High of Hyattsville, Md., in the championship game of the Les Schwab Invitational in Hillsboro, Ore.

Shabazz Muhammad had a team-high 23 points and 10 rebounds for Gorman, which went 3-1 in the tough event. Gorman led for most of the initial three quarters but could not hold off nationally ranked DeMatha down the stretch. Gorman didn't make a field goal in the final quarter.

Rosco Allen added 14 points and seven rebounds for the Gaels. Tournament most valuable player James Robinson scored 12 points for DeMatha, who got 14 points from Jerami Grant and 13 from Marcellous Bell. Mikael Hopkins, who has committed to Georgetown, had a game-high 13 rebounds.

Gorman, the two-time defending Nevada state champions, returns to action Tuesday with a Southwest Division game against visiting Western. Western only lost by nine points last year to Gorman and is expected to be a competitive foe again.
