Station Casinos donates $13,000 to Salvation Army after weekend theft

Salvation Army

Station Casinos came to the aid of the Salvation Army on Wednesday by donating $13,000 to the charity after someone stole from its headquarters over the weekend.

Charles Desiderio, director of development and marketing for the organization, said about $13,000 was stolen from a back room where volunteers count money collected from hundreds of the group’s holiday-season red kettles.

Lori Nelson, spokeswoman for Station Casinos, said all 18 Station Casino properties are pitching in to alleviate the financial loss.

“When we read the news and heard it on TV, we thought it was horrible. It just wasn’t in the holiday spirit how this happened,” Nelson said. “They have been longtime friends and we have been longtime supporters. We just thought it was a tragedy and it’s just the least we can do as members of the community.”

Desiderio said Station Casinos has helped the Salvation Army in the past, including donations to Salvation Army’s Hurricane Katrina event and donations to its low-income senior housing project.

“They’re just amazing people,” Desiderio said.
