Bicyclist, 74, critically injured in Boulder Highway crash

Bicyclist hit by car

A 74-year-old Las Vegas man was in critical condition Friday afternoon after being hit by a car while riding his bicycle on Boulder Highway near Dalhart Street, police said.

At 1:41 p.m., Gerald Synrod was riding a mountain bike south on Boulder Highway in the right shoulder of the road. Police said he suddenly turned left to cross the travel lanes and turned in front of a Hyundai Elantra which was traveling south in the right through lane.

The right front of the vehicle struck the left side of Synrod, causing him to be thrown to the ground, police said. He was transported to Sunrise Trauma with critical injuries.

The driver, Robert Fewins, 66, of Henderson, was not injured. The collision remains under investigation by Metro’s Accident Investigation Section.
