Hello, my name is Walter. If I’m going to write about a 1920s-themed party, I figure I should go as a famed reporter from the period (and, we both have theater backgrounds—bonus!).

On December 8, there is nothing “speakeasy” about LAX, where the Strip Empire: Celebrating the End of the 20s birthday party for Angel Management Group’s “Queen of House” Zee Zandi and DJ Shift has taken over, but the fashion, at least, is on point. Everyone has brought out their best fringe, headbands, pearl strings, newsboy hats, vests, knickers, Oxfords and suspenders. No, you cannot wear my hat, even though it’s better than yours. Yes, you can kiss me, even though my pants are manlier than yours.

Nathan Scott warms us up with the obligatory dance hits until Luciano (playing his first Vegas gig) washes his sounds over the masses. “Unobtrusive,” “warm” and “hypnotic” might not be typical words associated with tech house, but the DJ’s style is pleasant, most likely a product of his frequent performances at Ibiza parties. Patrón is poured from bottles straight into flappers’ mouths. Gangsters fall on their asses. You might even say it’s a roaring good time. Eh, Walter?
