A 21-year-old Michigan woman died in a two-vehicle crash near the Las Vegas Strip early Sunday when a suspected drunken driver rear-ended the car she was riding in.

Metro Police said the collision happened at 4:04 a.m. on Tropicana Avenue west of Duke Ellington Way. Police said a 2004 Mercury Sable was westbound on Tropicana when a 2009 Mercedes-Benz CLS550, also westbound on Tropicana, failed to slow down.

The Mercedes-Benz collided with the rear of the Sable, killing a passenger in the Sable, police said. The woman, from Dearborn Heights, Mich., was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Her name will be released by the Clark County Coroner's Office.

The driver of the Sable, Cynthia Konarksi, 55, of Las Vegas, was in critical condition, authorities said.

Police arrested the driver of the Mercedes-Benz — 32-year-old Edris Ghani, of San Diego — on suspicion of drunken driving. He was booked into the Clark County Detention Center.

Ghani and his passenger, Shakeeb Azizi, 26, of Temecula, Calif., weren't injured in the crash.

This is the 77th traffic-related fatality this year in Metro's jurisdiction.
