Metro Police have identified a pedestrian who was in critical condition Friday after being hit by a sport utility vehicle as 52-year-old Paul Schmedding of Las Vegas.

At 9:58 a.m. Friday, police responded to reports of a pedestrian hit by a vehicle at the intersection of Valley View and Oakey boulevards.

Based on evidence and witness statements, police said, a 2000 Ford Expedition was turning left on a green light from southbound Valley View Boulevard to eastbound Oakey Boulevard.

A northbound 1992 Isuzu Amigo hit the right rear of the Ford as it traveled through the intersection, causing the Ford to rotate as it traveled east out of the intersection, police said. The right rear of the Ford hit Schmedding as he was walking south in a marked crosswalk, police said.

Schmedding was taken to University Medical Center with critical injuries, police said. A passenger in the Ford, Shigeko Collins, 82, and the driver of the Isuzu, Grace Hart, 43, were transported to Valley Hospital with minor injuries, police said.

The driver of the Ford, Beverly Bohn, 72, was not injured, police said.

The crash remains under investigation by Metro’s Accident Investigation Section.
