Liberty girls grab victory at Canyon Springs

Team pages

Liberty showed why its so highly-regarded in the third quarter of a 66-58 victory against Canyon Springs on Tuesday night.

Behind Jade Washington and Amanda Delgado, the Patriots went on a big run to turn a narrow 33-31 halftime lead into a commanding 55-41 advantage.

“We contested shots,” Liberty coach Quintin Lester said. “We rebounded and we were able to dictate the pace and tempo in the third quarter. That’s what got us that lead.”

Delgado scored 16 points while Washington added 15. The duo combined for 12 assists.

Alena Evans also sparked the Patriots, contributing 13 points with four steals.

“Canyon Springs is talented,” Lester said. “They play hard and match up well with us.”

Canyon Springs made a surge in the fourth quarter, but it was a little too late. Liberty’s third quarter explosion was enough to make the deficit insurmountable.

“We started off flat and didn’t execute much in the first half,” Lester said. “Throughout the game, it showed the toughness in our team. We made plays when we needed to make plays.”
