The gaming industry’s annual tradeshow will find a new spot on the calendar and a new home in Las Vegas next fall.

The American Gaming Association announced today at the Venetian that it is moving the Global Gaming Expo from the Las Vegas Convention Center to the Sands Expo and Convention Center beginning in 2011. It also announced the show will be held about a month earlier than normal.

G2E is scheduled for Oct. 4-6 next year, rather than the middle of November, which it has occupied during recent years. This year's tradeshow is scheduled for Nov. 16-18. In 2012, G2E Las Vegas will take place in late September.

AGA President and Chief Executive Frank Fahrenkopf said the change in the event time is a result of feedback from gaming operators whose budgets for the coming year already were submitted by the time G2E rolled around in November.

“Adjusting the event calendar allows operators to plan better for the coming years and will hopefully help G2E sales,” Fahrenkopf said.

Organizers announced Tuesday that G2E Asia also will move up on the calendar. G2E Asia, which typically took place in June, will move to late May beginning in 2012. The show will continue to take place at the Venetian Macao, giving Las Vegas Sands the advantage of hosting both G2E shows.

Bally Technologies President and Chief Executive Officer Richard Haddrill, whose company is one of the largest exhibitors at G2E, said planning for the G2E shows takes a tremendous amount of time and the change in event times “alleviates some of that pressure”

G2E has been hosted at the Las Vegas Convention Center since it started in 2001. The convention is put on by the AGA and Reed exhibitions.

Fahrenkopf thanked Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority President and Chief Executive Rossi Ralenkotter for his organization's contributions to G2E over the past decade.

“It would be an understatement to say that the LVCVA has been essential to the success of G2E over the last 10 years. We are looking forward to continuing that relationship,” Fahrenkopf said.

The Sands Expo and Convention Center features 1.2 million square feet of convention space, compared to the Las Vegas Convention Center, which has 2.3 million square feet.

Last year, overall attendance was at 26,000, down 3.5 percent for the first two days of the show. The show spanned over nearly 258,000 square feet of exhibit space at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
