A Henderson man accused of shooting at two teens who were throwing eggs at his truck earlier this month will be formally arraigned on attempted murder charges in three weeks.

A felony arraignment has been scheduled for 9 a.m. Sept. 20 in Henderson Justice Court for Christopher Paul Brunelle, 22.

A criminal complaint was filed that charges Brunelle with two counts of attempted murder for firing at Cameron Mackey and Brenna Schmid-Webster, both 18.

Brunelle, who has been released on $20,000 bail, was arrested by Henderson Police following the egging incident, which occurred late at night on Aug. 15 in the 2800 block of Dalsetter Drive.

Anthony Niswonger, a Henderson police officer, said in his arrest report that a police dispatcher received a call about 11:47 p.m. that night from Brunelle, who reported he had fired two shots at a red Jeep Cherokee after the occupants threw "projectiles" at him.

Brunelle told police he was sitting in his vehicle in front of his home, smoking a cigarette when he saw a red Jeep Cherokee with "music blaring" enter his neighborhood, the report said.

Brunelle told officers he saw the vehicle speeding around the corner, then saw the door open and a "hand come out," according to report.

Brunelle told police he was unsure whether the occupants of the Jeep had a handgun, so he pointed his own Springfield XC 9mm pistol and fired two rounds at the vehicle.

The arrest report said that while en route to the call, a Henderson officer saw a red Jeep Cherokee in the area of the shooting and stopped the vehicle at Anthem Highland Drive and Crookston Way. The driver was Mackey, while Schmid-Webster was on the passenger's side, police said.

The officers noticed the passenger side window and door post on the Jeep were damaged with what looked like gunshots, the arrest report says.

The officers found that Schmid-Webster was injured on her upper right shoulder, which could have been caused by glass or bullet fragments.

Mackey told Niswonger that he and Schmid-Webster had been driving around through neighborhoods "egging" vehicles and they had driven up to an "off road" truck, the arrest report said. Mackey said Schmid-Webster threw a few eggs out of her window and hit the truck, then they drove around the corner and heard a gunshot. Mackey said he saw that his window was shot out and that Schmid-Webster had an injury, the report said.

Schmid-Webster later went to St. Rose Sienna Hospital for treatment, the report said.

The arrest report said Niswonger then went to Brunelle's home and saw him smoking as he sat on the curb near his white Ford pickup truck with his friends and roommates.

Niswonger said he got permission from Brunelle for officers to enter his home to retrieve his handgun, which they found on a couch.

Brunelle told Niswonger that as he was sitting in his pickup truck with the door open, the Jeep had accelerated toward him, got about four feet away and stopped. Brunelle said he saw the passenger throw something at his pickup truck, so he got his handgun from the center of his truck and chambered a round, the arrest report said.

Brunelle told police that when the Jeep accelerated away and was about 20 feet from him, he fired two rounds, in a "double tap," according to the arrest report.

Brunelle said he was trying to disable the vehicle to prevent its escape, and said that if he had stopped the Jeep, he would have "proned" the occupants and waited for police, the report said.

Authorities said that because of where the damage was done on the Jeep, they believed Brunelle's intention was to hit the occupants of the vehicle and not the tires, so Brunelle was arrested in connection with two counts of attempted murder.
