Coburn’s bizarre ethical lines

Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2010 | 2:01 a.m.

Oklahoma Sen. Tom Coburn is outraged at the thought of a Newt Gingrich presidency. In a widely circulated piece Monday, Politico, summarizing an account in the Tulsa media, ran this quote from Coburn about Gingrich: “He’s the last person I’d vote for for president of the United States.” Why? “His life indicates he does not have a commitment to the character traits necessary to be a great president,” Coburn told the Tulsa World. So based on his activities in the John Ensign affair, here’s what we know about Coburn: If you cheat on your wife, he will help you negotiate with the cuckolded husband, but he draws the line at supporting you for president. Ah, there are so few principled men left on Capitol Hill.
