Special bus routes planned for UNLV home football games

Monday, Aug. 30, 2010 | 1:30 a.m.

Fans who want to avoid traffic and parking problems at Rebels football games can take a special game-day bus route.

The Regional Transportation Commission will be providing bus service to Sam Boyd Stadium on routes 601 and 602 for six home games this season.

Passengers coming from the Strip can board route 602 at the eastbound bus stop on Las Vegas Boulevard at Tropicana Avenue. The express line then goes down Tropicana Avenue, stops at UNLV and then Boulder Highway, before looping to the stadium.

Route 602 runs a continuous loop from Boulder Highway and Tropicana Avenue to the stadium, allowing fans transferring from other bus routes to access the stadium.

That route will travel a continuous loop from Tropicana Avenue and Boulder Highway to Broadbent Boulevard to the stadium, then will take Russell Road and Boulder Highway back to Tropicana, making a stop every quarter mile.

Buses will run about every 20 minutes on both routes.

The RTC recommends passengers buy a 24-hour pass for $5 to cover the cost of the roundtrip.

The two routes will run from 4 p.m. to midnight on Sept. 4 for the game against Wisconsin, from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. Oct. 2 for the game against UNR, from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. Nov. 13 for the game against Wyoming, from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. Sept. 25 for the game against New Mexico, from 4 p.m. to midnight on Oct. 30 for the game against TCU and from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. Nov. 18 for the game against the Air Force.

  1. Interesting - so more folks can see games by a losing team that has a clone coach selected for his in the mainstream qualities.

  2. you make no sense. interesting...

  3. Having bus service to football games is a great plan

  4. This is an excellent plan. Kudos to all involved.

However, I would highly suggest pushing the service ends times up 30 minutes to an hour, from midnight to 12:30 for the big games and from 11pm to 11:30pm for the other games as the lines could be very long.

  5. What does "clone coach" mean?

  6. great move

  7. is that to save our tires and suspension from that crappy road leading out there.i think the mint 500 desert off-road course was smoother.i can still remember my teeth chattering the last time i traversed it

  8. Great idea! The students that live on campus have a much easier way to get to their own football games. This might increase Rebel spirit and keep the roads a little safer.
