Drowning

A 20-year-old man from Las Vegas who drowned Monday afternoon at Lake Mohave was identified today as George Roacho, according to the Clark County Coroner's Office.

Officials said Roacho was underwater for at least five minutes at Six Mile Cove before witnesses noticed him missing at about 12:20 p.m. They found him five minutes later and pulled him to shore, where they began CPR.

Park rangers, the Clark County Fire Department and Mercy Air responded, but Roacho was declared dead at the scene at 1:38 p.m.

Officials said Roacho's death is the fifth drowning this month and eighth this year in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. Last year, there were 14 water-related deaths in the park, 12 of which were drownings.

Six Mile Cove is located east of Searchlight, just south of the Cottonwood Cove area.
