A man was killed Monday night in a double shooting in West Las Vegas that sprayed nearby homes and a car with bullets, authorities said.
Metro Police responded at 10:22 p.m. to reports of gunshots in the 1100 block of Freeman Avenue, which is near Owens Avenue and Martin Luther King Boulevard.
Officers arrived to find a 24-year-old man dead in the yard of a home with a gunshot wound to the chest, officials said. Another man, 25, was found in the backyard with a gunshot in the upper thigh, police said.
The second man was taken to University Medical Center in stable condition, authorities said.
Authorities said the home, neighboring homes and a vehicle also were struck by bullets. The 24-year-old man who died lived at the home where he was found, officials said.
The victims were sitting on the side yard of the residence when a man suspect fired several shots at them, police said.
No one was in custody in connection with the shootings Tuesday afternoon.
Metro's homicide and gang units responded to the shooting, Metro spokeswoman Barbara Morgan said.
The Clark County Coroner's Office will release the victim's name. Metro Police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact the homicide section at (702) 828-3521 or Crime Stoppers at (702) 385-5555.

Has anyone noticed there seems to be a least one murder a day here in Las Vegas?
A cat with nine lives couldn't survive in Vegas.
Info your right, whether it's a traffic fatality or gun shot or someone shooting themselves there is definitely a spike in non-natural deaths.
Metro: Don't pay any attention to the violent crime. Instead, invest your time in making sure non violent white women can't possess small amounts of chemicals. That should keep things clean around here!
Chunky asks:
Wasn't there a homicide just the other day in the alphabet street area?
What is going on in this area?
That's what Chunky wants to know!
goingbust,
You (and many others) don't seem to understand how a police department works. Officers work different areas. In the case of Hilton, they were working the Strip, where there probably wasn't much happening. On top of that, the officer who stopped her was a traffic officer, who's primary job is to enforce traffic laws.
This shooting happened in West Las Vegas, which is handled by a different area. Most murder suspects are caught, it just doesn't always make the news. Metro pay a lot of attention to violent crime, but just because there is violent crime doesn't mean they should forgot about and stop enforcing everything else.
I thought the purpose of police work was to gather cover your behind stuff so when they choose to kill someone they can get off without being responsible for their irresponsibility!
The gang capitol of the nation "Los Angeles" has already had 420 homicides reported for this year alone. We need to do a better job of cleaning out the 2 strike losers hiding out here and send their arses back to Cali.
informant23:
the cops on the strip like you say are there for a specific purpose and zone. overall, i understand and agree with your statement....BUT....here is my complaint with metro. metro seems to focus a lot on worrying about petty crap like hookers and cabbies and bad massage parlors. there are bigger issues in this town than that, and metro needs to attack the real problems out there, not stupid stuff. while the stupid stuff may be a crime, and all crimes need to put the people behind bars, there is a limited amount of cash for operations and busting small time pot dealers or hookers or people just soliciting a hooker is overall right now a waste of time.
with my above comment, here lies another problem, that if they do back off on this it becomes more rampant and becomes a larger problem. unfortunately, they are fighting a constant losing battle when it comes to the small issues. if the state and county would legalize certain things, regulate it, tax it, and create revenue from it our crime rate would drop, and money can be used to fix other problems.
legalize pot, you get rid of the small time hustlers (IE Cole), and the big dogs will move on to bigger things like coke, meth and other hardcore. as the hardcore issues grow, they will be easier to spot and take down. increase penalties to keep them behind bars for 30 plus years first time offender. period.
legalize the hookers like the rest of the state. zone the brothels, limit the number of licensing to control the number of brothels in town. most of these crappy massage parlors are on industrial, highland, western so zone those areas for it since its non residential, no schools, etc and its a hidden area overall so its not like there are kids there anyways. regulate the billboard advertising so they cannot advertise on the freeways or locally. tax it regulate it. it generates tax revenue needed, and the police will not dedicate manpower to it anymore.
repeal the statute that makes people that solicit for sex for money illegal. there is no reason why someone wanting sex should have to go to jail for it. its a 100% victimless crime to want to get laid. the hookers tho are known to steal and rip off the people paying them for sex but if regulated, the chances of this happening are very slim compared to now.
all the above make sense. all the above will generate revenue, and possibly even attract tourism. by legalizing pot, the hotels can reap in the benefits by making pot parlors in the hotels...dedicated places to buy a joint and smoke it and pay a fee to be in the place. make a night club out of it. its all taxed and regulated. the possibilities are endless.
by removing these small, harmless things from the illegal portion of our laws it takes the police away from these smalltime issues and allows them to move that part of the budget to another area of law enforcement.
what people dont understand that there are so many tourists that come here and want to party and want hookers and pot. when i was in the transportation industry i had people ask me all the time for weed and hookers. its hard to survey people out of fear of embarassment or getting pinched, but id say during an 8 hour shift, if i transported 200 people during the nighttime party hours, 60-80 of them wanted at least a joint or a hooker or both. one driver gets this many requests i wonder, how many are really out there that are willing to pay? pot will cause no more problems that getting drunk does, and paying for sex is not a big deal. these guys that are here to party wanna pick up a chick in the club anyways and get sexed up.
clark county and the city are out of touch with the needs of tourists in certain ways and this is a prime example of leaving money on the table. instead of raising room rates, all they have to do is legalize the stuff.
even if they only legalized pot in the tourist corridors to start as a trial thing before expanding it county or statewide it would be worth it. if you expand it countywide, then keep it regulated to be sold only in certain stores, in certain areas of town to keep it away from kids. if the plan is done right, and smart, and presented to the public in a responsible manner up front, i suspect opposition to it to be limited, this goes for hookers and pot.
This area is THE scariest place I've ever driven thru - and that was in broad daylight. And I used to drive thru the Cabrini Green area in Chicago all the time and never was as freaked out as I was going thru this area. One time driving home from work at 5:15pm, I got lost and ended up going down I believe H Street. Within a 2 block stretch, I saw FOUR squad cars and several people sitting on the curbs handcuffed! NEVER made that mistake again. Tough area.
The shootings and the crime will always be here. Its just a fact. If anyone has any ideas? or any way to stop the violence instead of blaming the cops for this one too. plz inform. they cant control your wild kids, be your wedding counselor, stop your neighbor from his loud party, stop the speeders, and everything else in between. So many smart people on here that can comment. cmon...fill the public in with more of your talents.
Don't blame the police officers for enforcing laws passed by political animals who put a wet finger up to see which way the wind is blowing before they enact them. I, too, believe the "War on Drugs" should be ended. It wastes too many valuable resources that could be used more wisely and, no, I do not and never have used illegal drugs. I think anyone starting to use them, including that dumb blonde, is stupid. Sooner or later, they will control your life. Meanwhile, tax them and use the money to warn those about to embark on the "adventure" of using them exactly what awaits them in an extremely unpleasant future. Bear in mind: It's far easier to never start an addiction then it is to stop it!
people are caught with drugs all of the time, the only reason the media thinks this is a big deal is because it was the moron Paris Hilton... if it was you or I, nobody would care. The media airs this garbage because of all the morons out there who give a crap about what "stars" do on a daily basis. Paris Hilton is a waste of time, and I can't believe I wasted 5 minutes of my life commenting on this.
Good luck Metro, like any other places, if it's gang related nobody (including the victims) will voluntarily snitch on the shooters. These victims most likely knew the shooters but will take care of them the gangbanger way, try to shoot and kill the other gangbangers to have their revenge. Too bad that they (gangbangers) can't be all armed and shoot at each other in an isolated part of Death Valley. These thugs will not stop until they are dead or put in jail.
Bulaia is bascially right!! No matter what you try to legalize crime will always be here!! Legalize all the drugs you want and guess what? More and more people making your food will be druggies. Our cops and teachers will be druggies. The circulumn will be "how to cut an OZ of coke and make a profit". That's funny,..if you regulate hookers then there is a slim chance you will get ripped off? Are strip clubs regulated? Don't they rip people off, all the time everyday? That frame of mind is just plan dumb. Bascially, crime is nothing new and it will continue. The smart thing to do is protect yourself and live in an area where crime is low and pray that you are not a victim. I am not going to live in fear. I am just going to be smart and use my brain. And people talking about they got lost on H street proves how moronic they are. First off, get a GPS system!! They are cheap now. Secondly, know the city you live in!! Lastly, believe it or not kids that grow up in Summerlin are just as bad as the west side kids. I listen to them curse at the parents and they do just much drugs as other kids. So, in short, be a good parent or your kids will be in the news..ie DUI...killed ect.. you get the point.
