Las Vegas ranks as top destination for Labor Day weekend

Las Vegas has retained its crown as the nation’s most popular Labor Day destination, a leading Internet travel company says.

Orbitz.com on Monday will release its annual list of the most frequently booked destinations for the Labor Day weekend, Sept. 3-6. Based on air and hotel bookings through the site as of Aug. 19, Las Vegas holds the top spot.

It’s the third straight year that Las Vegas has led Orbitz’s Labor Day weekend bookings.

New York, Chicago, Denver, Seattle, San Francisco, Atlanta, Boston, Orlando and Los Angeles trail Las Vegas on the site’s list.

Among international destinations, the top spots for Labor Day are Cancun, Mexico; London; Paris; San Juan, Puerto Rico; Rome; San Jose Cabo, Mexico; Barcelona; Toronto; Vancouver, British Columbia; and Montego Bay, Jamaica.

Among the top 10 domestic destinations on the Orbitz list, Las Vegas ranked as the fourth most affordable for hotel rates at an average daily rate of $106. Cheaper hotel rooms were offered in Orlando ($79), Denver ($81) and Los Angeles ($98).

Other rates reported by Orbitz: Chicago ($114), Atlanta ($117), San Francisco and Seattle ($119), Boston ($145) and New York ($215).

The least expensive international hotel rates were in Toronto ($107), San

Juan ($126) and Vancouver ($134), while the priciest were in Paris ($216), Cancun ($165) and Rome ($153). All international rates are converted to U.S. dollars.
