A judge handed down a maximum sentence Monday to a woman convicted in a drunken driving crash that killed a 29-year-old man.

Miranda Dalton, who was 28 at the time of the April crash, was sentenced by District Court Judge Jennifer Togliatti to eight to 20 years in prison and ordered to pay $11,581 in restitution. Dalton will get credit for the 107 days she has served in jail.

Maidman's family and the district attorney's office had requested the sentence, which is the maximum under state law.

On April 9, Dalton rear-ended Paul Maidman's car at the intersection of Cheyenne Avenue and Soaring Gulls Drive, killing him.

Authorities said Dalton admitted to drinking at a bar that night before driving home. A breath test conducted shortly after the wreck showed an alcohol level more than double the legal limit of .08.

According to the arrest report, Maidman's gold 2003 Buick Century was struck from behind. He died from his injuries at University Medical Center.

Maidman's sister, Dawn Buist of Las Vegas, said family and friends are "thrilled" with the sentence given to Dalton. About 50 to 60 family members and friends of Maidman attended the sentencing Monday as part of "Team Paul" to demand justice, she said.

"We're very satisfied," Buist said. "That's all we could have asked for."
