Dana White says St. Pierre, Koscheck fight likely in Las Vegas

Welterweight title fight on Dec. 11 appears headed for Nevada

SAN FRANCISCO — A welterweight title fight between Georges St. Pierre and Josh Koscheck is likely to take place in Las Vegas, UFC president Dana White said Thursday.

The event is expected to be Dec. 11 in UFC 124.

"It's really looking like that fight will be in Vegas," White told the Las Vegas Sun.

The two welterweights will be featured as opposing coaches on the upcoming 12th season of "The Ultimate Fighter." The show debuts Sept. 15 on Spike TV.

Rumors had circulated that the fight would take place in Toronto or Koscheck's hometown of Pittsburgh.

But with mixed martial arts still unsanctioned in Toronto, White said the fight almost certainly will take place in Las Vegas because of its magnitude.

"If I could do it Toronto, believe me, I'd do it there in a heartbeat," White said. "We're still talking about doing a fight in Pittsburgh, but if you're going to a fight, do you want to go do Pittsburgh or do you want to go to Vegas?

"If we're going to do a big, major title fight like that, we've got to do it in Las Vegas."

If in Las Vegas, the event will take place at either Mandalay Bay or MGM Grand.

The organization likely would prefer the MGM Grand Garden Arena, as it seats between 2,000-to-3,000 more per fight.

St. Pierre (20-2) is riding a seven-fight win streak. His latest title defense came March 27 by unanimous decision against Dan Hardy at UFC 111.

Koscheck (15-4) has won his last three fights, the most recent an unanimous decision win May 8 against Paul Daley at UFC 113.

The two have fought once before, a non-title bout in 2007. St. Pierre won by unanimous decision.
