Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2010 | 4:54 p.m.

New nonstop flights are coming between Las Vegas and Pueblo, Colo., a town 41 miles south of Colorado Springs.

Allegiant Air today announced nonstop jet service between Pueblo and Las Vegas will begin Oct. 7.

"Jim Carter and I, co-chairmen of the Allegiant Air project, are very excited and pleased that Allegiant has chosen Pueblo for its Las Vegas service," Dave Cardinal, Pueblo Airport Advisory Board co-chairman, said in a statement. "Not only will this provide service to Pueblo but also to all of Southern Colorado. We are confident the Las Vegas service will be well received and very popular."

The new flights will operate two times weekly between the Pueblo Memorial Airport and McCarran International Airport, with service Thursday and Sunday. Flights will depart Pueblo at 7:25 p.m. arriving in Las Vegas at 8:25 p.m. Flights leaving Las Vegas will depart at 3:55 p.m. arriving in Pueblo at 6:45 p.m.

The carrier will use a twin-engine 150-seat MD-80 jet aircraft on the route.

Allegiant will continue to serve Colorado Springs, Colo., but with fewer flights a week. The airline will reduce frequency on the route from four flights a week to three, operating Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Last month, Allegiant also announced twice-weekly flights between Colorado Springs and Mesa, Ariz., and Long Beach, Calif.
