Bail cut for ex-cop in Las Vegas process server case

Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2010 | 10:19 a.m.

A judge lowered bail to $35,000 for a former Las Vegas police officer facing felony charges that he operated as an unlicensed process server and submitted false court affidavits that he had delivered legal documents.

Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Joe M. Bonaventure gave 41-year-old Maurice Carroll until Friday to post bail, and set a preliminary hearing for Aug. 16.

Defense lawyer Craig Mueller entered a not guilty Tuesday on Carroll's behalf to 35 felonies including perjury, false instrument for filing and obtaining money under false pretenses charges. Bail had been set at $105,000.

Carroll was a police officer for 10 years before opening a company called On Scene Mediations out of his North Las Vegas home. His clients included payday loan and debt collection firms.
