Two Nye County sheriff's deputies who fired shots at a gunman who fatally wounded a deputy Monday in Pahrump were identified today.

The deputies were Douglas McKillips, 45, and Deputy Thomas Klenczar, 39. McKillips has been with the Nye County Sheriff's Office for seven years, while Klenczar has been with the sheriff's office for six years.

Nye County authorities say the deputies fired their weapons, killing 30-year-old James Lacy Chaffin. The shooting occurred after Chaffin shot and killed Deputy Ian Deutch, 27, at Terrible’s Lakeside Casino and RV in Pahrump.

Both McKillips and Klenczar are on paid administrative, which is standard practice in officer-involved shootings.

Funeral services for Deutch will begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Canyon Ridge Church, 6200 W. Lone Mountain Road. Gov. Jim Gibbons has ordered state flags to be lowered to half-staff Saturday during Deutch's funeral services.
