Crash location
An 11-year-old girl was taken to the hospital this morning after being struck by a car on Palomino Lane in front of Howard Wasden Elementary School, police said.
Metro spokeswoman Officer Barbara Morgan said the girl was walking in a crosswalk about 7:30 a.m. in the 2800 block of Palomino Lane when she was hit by an eastbound white Honda. Another driver traveling westbound saw the girl crossing and stopped, police said.
The girl was taken to University Medical Center with a possible broken leg, Morgan said.
Police spokesman Jay Rivera said the driver of the white Honda has been cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

Where are those motorcycle cops when you need them??? This is the second one in a week.
Please, if that driver is charged and convicted, give him/her the max. There is NO excuse for hitting anyone in a crosswalk in front of a school.
One must ask, where was the crossing guard? Even if we assume one was present and the child didn't wait for the crossing guard, the driver should have been paying maximum attention in a school zone when it was likely that children would be present.
Again, there can be NO excuse for this.
No mention of the driver who hit her stopping - only that of another car traveling in the opposite direction. Does this mean it's a hit-n-run? I am constantly amazed at how fast people in Nevada drive thru school zones - when I lived in Arizona people took those zones very seriously - out here it seems - not so much...
Slow Down People!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Two kids in two day, in a school zone, where are the school police. I have lived in Las Vegas for a year and a half and have not seen one school police anywhere. Maybe the Clark School District should evaluate the need for school police and contract Metro to do the job, I see Metro everywhere. I think school police is a waste of money and resources. Many time school police only work Mon - Fri and if there is a call at night, Metro usually handles the call. In both cases speed probably is the cause, even if the one in Henderson isn't speed related, he probably was still going 5 MPH over the limit.
Drive by a high school...that's where they are...usually responding to a fight.
