A new restaurant and bar opening at the Red Rock Resort is looking to put 200 people to work.
Yard House, which also has a location at Town Square, will be kicking off its hiring effort to fill 200 positions Tuesday. The restaurant will open June 6.
Yard House is hiring for both front and back-of-house positions, including servers, bartenders, kitchen workers and management staff.
Applicants will be asked to demonstrate their restaurant skills. Bartender applicants will be asked to pour test shots and drinks using water to create “mocktails” and will be tested on drink recipes. Kitchen applicants will need to demonstrate several cooking techniques. Restaurant experience is a plus, but not necessary for all positions, according to the hiring announcement.
The hiring center will be open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Applications will be accepted until May 15.
Situated at the entrance to Red Rock Canyon and minutes from the world-renowned Las Vegas Strip, Red Rock Casino, Resort & Spa offers five-star luxury in a modern property, built in 2006.
The casino features features 3,000 slot and video poker machines, 60 table games including blackjack, baccarat, craps, poker, roulette, a 206-seat Race and Sports Book with a 96-foot video wall a 20-table smoke-free poker room open 24 hours a day, a 600-seat bingo hall with separate smoking and non-smoking sections, open 7 days a week with sessions running every other hour from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m., a 20-seat keno lounge and a private high-limit room.
A recipient of the AAA Four Diamond Award since opening and named one of the world's best new hotels by Conde Nast Traveler magazine, Red Rock redefines casino resort architecture by incorporating natural light, a convenient layout and the comforts of a modern lifestyle.
The centerpiece of the property is the three-acre pool complex with 19 cabanas and swim-up gaming. Its location allows for balcony views from several of the property's restaurants and Cherry Nightclub. Aside from Cherry, guests can grab a drink at Onyx or Lucky or listen to live music in Rocks Lounge.
Dining spans the globe at Red Rock with more than 10 restaurants, including the Italian food of Terra Rossa, the Japanese fusion of Hachi, the Mexican spices at Cabo Cantina or a bit of everything at the Feast Buffet.
Unlike some resorts in town, Red Rock has activities for the whole family, such as a 16-screen movie theater and an arcade. The 72-lane bowling center features a VIP area and carpet that glows in the dark for after hours at Cosmic Bowling.

What a terrible thing to say. There are MANY, MANY educated people and students getting educated working in bars and restaurants.
Amazing how society can take something positive (like jobs)to turn it in something negative. Good grief.
As much as I hate to admit it.. SmarterThanYou is right...
Hey SmarterThanYou,
Many people who work in the culinary industry are extremely educated. A comment like that shows your ignorance. It annoys me that people who comment are so negative on this site. Also to say the Las Vegas Valley is uneducated is another ignorant comment. I'm just tired of people bashing Vegas all the time.
guialera:
AMEN BRO!! MAY WISH YOU THE BEST!!
That is what we need!! CONFIDENT POSITIVE THINKERS!!!
I am tired of hearing the bullcrap that education must be judged by how far you went through this MONOPLOZED FORECFUL SCHOOLS!!!
NOT TRUE!!! There are so many people who dont have college degrees and are bright!!! LOOK AT WAYNE NEWTON, PHIL RUFFIN, AND SHELDON ADELSON!!!
Go ahead you all... judge the crap out of the valley... BUT I WONT!! JUST LIKE STEVE WYNN!! I WILL HOPEFULLY DELIVER CONFIDENCE!!
guialera, LETS MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!
Believe it or not.....
NOTICE HOW:
Public sector is LOSING... aka...
firefighters... Clark County and City of Las Vegas
AND....
Private sector is WINNING:
Wynn hiring 400..
Harrahs hiring 500..
Red Rock hiring 200....
mmm...look...it's still more bottom tier jobs, folks.
it's kind of a "push" at the end of the day.
By the way..... I HOPE THIS MEANS THAT....
THE SHOPS AT SUMMERLIN CENTRE WILL RECOVER!!!
OH YEAH!!! GROW THAT PLACE LIKE CRAZY!!!!
BUILD MEGA MIXED-USE BUILDINGS RANGING FROM 8-20 STORIES!!! FULL OF CONDOS, OFFICES, AND OH YES BABY....
CORPORATE SUITES!!!
Good point, Cyrus.
Apparently NotAsSmartAsHeThinksHeIs, environ, and stevem got to start somewhere at the top. Good for them. I sure didn't.
And by the way, Yard House and Red Rock are not exactly dumps. Sure, YH doesn't have a celebrity chef, but it's a whole lot of fun and IMO a much better alternative to smoky, dark PTs or Buffalo Wild Wings.
These jobs also require management, folks. For very 20 or so employees there is often some type of supervisors, then managers, etc... This is all good for the economy, whether short- or long-term.
dhvincent1:
Excellent point...!!!!
That is how it should be done in EVERY FIELD!!!
Young workers at a low level job bounce to higher levels by training.... COME ON!!!...
this is better than spending $100K+ in college tuition!!
PERHAPS... THAT IS WHAT CAN MAKE THE VALLEY MORE INTERESTING!!!....
A more convenient education system!! Who needs CCSD and UNLV???
The dimensions are amazing: 200 workers , just for 1 single, additional restaurant at one specific casino that already has several other restaurants and dining amenities....
To all the CEOs bemoaning the addition of these "bottom tier jobs"...stop trying to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory...they're jobs. Be thankful you don't have to debase yourself by working one of them and take comfort in the knowledge that some poor wretched soul beneath your stature and standing will find gainful employment.
Oh jeez don't get Cyrus992 going here again! I think he's gone blotto on prozac or somethin. Blondie even you can rise above entry level, it just takes an education, and an ability to wrangle emotional management..
@environ -
Don't get your Superman panties in a bunch. Rest assured, I am a college grad. My days of entry level are long gone since my firm employs 54 people. But, I have nothing but very fond memories of my days running valet. As you would say, I was such a "bottom-feeder" from 18-22.
Can you recommend a little pill for "emotional management?" I'm certain you've got a few faves.
i didn't say these were "bad" jobs or that they were "beneath" me.
if you are looking for ANY job or your FIRST job, these jobs are much better than sitting around doing nothing.
what i SAID was that from a macro economic view...the bulk of these jobs really won't pay enough to put enough back into the economy.
i never started at the top. my first job?
i bagged groceries.
environprotector:
What is your problem?
FYI, my hope is to share ideas to bring relief and help to the Las Vegas Valley.....
Please show some respect.... I cant take any more intolerance.... especially my school where some LAUGH at my ideas for the valley....
Hopefully... when I move here... shy and pessimistic people will have their voices shut....
BTW, I think if Red Rock was mixed in the Shops at Summerlin Centre, it would be a splendid idea...
I hope they will be able to keep these jobs and not lay off a bunch after a short period of time.
Point taken, stevem.
But you did say: "it's still more bottom tier jobs"
Hardly. Bottom-tier jobs are min wage with no experience/training required and no advancement (ie: "would you like fries with that?"). Sure, there are a few bussers making min wage with no tips, but the majority of jobs there will pay well enough (including tips) to make a decent living. Enough to have money circulating back into the local economy (rent, utilities, car payment, entertainment, etc.). And, as woody pointed out, there will be management positions as well.
smarter than you, means smarter than stevem
haha. people are so bitter.
if you start at "the top" they hate you.
if you start at "the bottom" and WORK your way to the top...they still hate you.
Too bad most of them will be laid off not too long after the opening and novelty wears off.
stevem-And you "job" now is poster here at the Sun.
200 new workers does not make sense. This is a relatively small restaurant in an underused large casino which is mostly empty, and which has numerous other restaurants. If they really hire 200 people, which I doubt, then it won't be long until the layoffs.
you always hire a few extra, because some people just fake the funk. Nobody will be working overtime either.
The fact is it's good news. The all-day posters that are either unemployed or old farts, talk smack all day and hate their lives.
I think SmarterThanYou likes to make rediculous comments to see who he can get to agree with him.. He is running a crazy tea partier litmus test. It's cracking me up; keep it up!
Question for the people who are getting jobs:
How's that hopey the economy is finally getting better and you're gonna have a paycheck soon changey thing working for you?
Congrats to everyone who is going to have a paycheck soon and to the Nevada businesses that will benefit from those paychecks!
Thanks Senator Reid for helping our nation avoid complete financial collapse!
Wow Woody, according to your numbers, they'll be having at least 19 or 20 supervisors and managers. That will solve some of the unemployment issues. I think it's like this: Bitter employees having to take a dead end job because their unemployment has run out. I have eaten at those restaurants before. You'll need to be bi-lingual just to get another spoon. As a matter of fact if the restaurant should close after a year then their unemployment will re-load.
It MAY reload. They shouldn't count on it.
Restaurants require management as well folks. That's not 'entry level'.
Besides, have some of you forgotten what this town is all about? People move here all the time in hopes of getting jobs in the hospitality industries... THESE kind of jobs.
Plus this is 200 more people NOT collecting unemployment. That benefits us all.
yardhouse: not a bad place for a beer.
people handling and preparing your food are every bit important and appreciated as a roofer for your home or car mechnanic. hopefully they take thier job seriously, enjoy their job and make a few tips along the way.
If you take SmaterThanYou or environprotector serious then you don't read these blogs on a regular basis! They say whatever they think will get a rise out of people!! Computer dorks with no hope for female interaction!
Restaurant management is not a bottomfeeder job.
It's a career, not easy, stressfull at times ,but can earn you a decent living if you are good at it.
These are 200 jobs badly needed by many. Those getting the positions, whatever they are will be grateful for the "income" at any level. It's a step in the right direction.
Support your unions if you want to maintain middle class employment opportunities for workers. Many of those hired will likely be college students and not bottom feeders. Anyone who works for their money deserves respect. The bottom feeders are the criminals breaking into houses and shooting people.
"200 more entry-level bottomfeeder jobs for the uneducated people of the valley. So sad."
And if they added 200 jobs that required a BS/BA from a reputable univeristy and 10 years experience, how would it help the people who would apply for this position?
I'm just surprised how many people a Yard House needs to run. The one in Glenview doesn't need nearly this many people.
"200 more entry-level bottomfeeder jobs for the uneducated people of the valley. So sad."
If you were really smarter than all of us, you would know that these jobs are even MORE important than the kind you would consider worthy.
Plus that was just a mean, rude thing to say. Shame on you.

I agree, if you are disappointed in your community, try to do something to improve it or go someplace else. Some people are just not happy unless they are complaining. But what are they doing to change things?
ComeOnMan nailed it. I'm going to lose my lunch. Jobs are jobs, period. These people who think new jobs are a bad? thing are db's and we all know it. THEY probably know it since they only have social plans with their mother or "hired" help. Speaking of Tiger Woods...
Even if the wages are entry-level they can be a god-send as supplementary income. My in-law works at a restaurant and that extra money can be used to buy clothes for the kids or to go out and spend and contribute to the economy.
These small jobs are important and LV needs plenty more.
Wow, what condescending liberal elitism posted by (not)smarterthanyou, environ, and stevem. You guys got yours so you complain about someone else maybe getting a restaurant job and maybe getting off of welfare? Or at least gaining a little self respect by earning their keep rather than depending on someone else? I know it fits with the liberal or progressive view that everyone should be dependent on the government for a handout but some people have morals and personal pride and want to work for a living...
I agree with ComeonMan too! Those guys are the first to post at 3am and are probably the same person with different screen names. Art Swanson is another serial poster too. I bet they are payed by the LVSun to "elevate" discussion. This is what the Sun and other online media likes to do. It's sad with the media purposely wants to cause friction. If you look to the right of where you type in your comments, it's says in the small print, they want to elevate the discussion.
