A preliminary hearing has been set for a Las Vegas man accused of stabbing a woman multiple times at a sober-living group home last week.

Kelvin Patton, 34, appeared briefly Wednesday morning in Las Vegas Justice Court, where a preliminary hearing was set for April 21.

He is facing seven felony charges that include attempted murder, robbery and assault, all enhanced with use of a deadly weapon, in connection with both the attack on the stabbing victim and for holding a knife to another woman early Friday morning. The stabbing occurred in the 4700 block of Pioneer Avenue, which is near Spring Mountain Road and Decatur Boulevard.

He is also accused of taking a cell phone and credit cards from the woman who was stabbed, authorities said. Police also say he threatened another woman who lived at the home with a knife before the stabbing attack.

The stabbing victim, who had at least 20 and as many as 36 wounds, survived but was critically injured. Police said some of the wounds damaged her intestines and lacerated her heart.

A Metro Police report indicated the woman who was stabbed told police she believed the person who attacked her was the father of a housemate’s baby. The housemate and her child had spent the night elsewhere because the woman failed an alcohol test, the report said.

Patton was developed as a suspect and contacted investigators Saturday after learning police were looking for him. He denied involvement in the crime, but failed a polygraph test and provided an alibi that wasn’t credible, police said

The police report indicated a second person was at the home at the time of the attack, but no information about a second suspect has been released.

Patton is being held in the Clark County Detention Center.
