Parents and children learned about the craft of pottery Sept. 26 at the Boulder City Art Center during Splatter Pottery.

Splatter Pottery is an annual class that is held at the beginning of every year to educate families about various art classes offered at the Art Center. The class is interactive and allows families to create splatter bowls and handprints.

Art Center Director Robin Kariam said that handprints are popular among the class because people like to use them as holiday gifts. She also said that children enjoy squirting the glaze over splatter bowls.

"It mostly gets the parents out here and informs them of classes," Kariam said. "There were 60 percent of new people on Saturday."

Kariam said Splatter Pottery is a good way to get families who just moved to Boulder City involved with the community. Children under 13 years of age aren't allowed to take a pottery class, but are able to take a fine arts drawing class, she said.

Some of the classes offered include candle making, glass painting, painting watercolor or acrylic and pottery throwing. All class prices vary from $25 to $65 based on the level of the class, Kariam said.
