Clark County firefighters roll up a hose after a fire in an electrical yard on Pepper Lane near Pecos Road Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2009. Burning spools of wire caused black smoke but the fire was contained to the yard. Firefighters were hampered gaining access to the fire due to the large amount of supplies in the yard.

Electrical wiring sparked a fire that spread to a storage yard where large spools of wire were kept in the southeast Las Vegas Valley about 5 p.m. Wednesday, sending black smoke into the sky that could be seen throughout the valley.

Clark County Fire Department spokesman Scott Allison said an electrical company's box erupted in flames and spread to a storage area at Pecos Road and Russell Avenue.

The building itself is protected, Allison said.

No injuries were reported.
