Letter to the editor:

Column on train hit the nail on the head

Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2009 | 2:01 a.m.

For a very conservative guy to find himself writing a letter to the Las Vegas Sun to compliment Brian Greenspun is highly unusual to say the least. I do read his columns — to get another point of view and, further, to get my heart started on Sunday mornings.

With Sunday’s Where I Stand column, “Let’s have a train that goes where we want to,” I found myself both entertained and in total agreement. It was a well-written column that just makes a lot of common sense.

As a child, I traveled from Los Angeles four or five times to Salt Lake City by train; I always enjoyed the water stop in Las Vegas, and this was in the 1930s, a little before Mr. Greenspun’s time here.

Mr. Greenspun built a very good case to have a train go from one metropolitan area to another highly populated area.

Having lived and worked for 14 business years in some of the areas back east he discussed in his column, including Washington, I can say, “Right on, Mr. Greenspun.”
