Language classes offered for children

The Boulder City Parks and Recreation Department offers language lessons on a continuous basis for ages 2 and up. Spanish, German, Italian, French and English as a second language are offered in a private, semi-private or small group setting.

Many theme parties are incorporated into class time.

Class meets Wednesdays, with ages 2 to 4 years old from 10 to 10:45 a.m. and ages 4 to 6 years old from 3:30 to 4:15 p.m. Parent participation is required for children who are not toilet trained. Classes are $6 per 45-minute class and paid monthly.

For all other participants, times and dates are arranged directly with instructor Beatrice Werner through the Recreation Department.

All classes are held at ABC Park in the Administration No. 2 classroom. Call the Recreation Center for more information at 293-9256.

Cooking classes offered for kids

The Boulder City Parks and Recreation Department will be offering a series of cooking classes for children ages 7-12 at the Multi Use Building in Broadbent Memorial Park. Children under 9 years old must have a responsible party to be present during class.

The first class will make a jack-o-lantern and prepare pumpkin seed treats. Bring a small or medium pumpkin and enroll by Oct. 1. The second class will focus on a hot cocoa treat and snowman gift. Bring a canning jar with a lid and enroll by Nov. 1. The last of this series will make butter cookies.

Each class is $12.50 and for the last class an additional $5 material fee will need to be paid to the instructor.

Artist exhibiting work

Artist and photographer D.W. Martin will have an exhibit of his work, "The Romanticism of D.W. Martin" on display Oct. 3 and 4 at 410 Nevada Way, across from Art in the Park.

The gallery will be open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days.

Cancer society to host health forum

American Cancer Society's Cancer Action Network is hosting a forum on health care reform at 7 p.m. Oct. 7 at the Henderson Convention Center.

The forum will be moderated by journalist Jon Ralston, host of "Face to Face with Jon Ralston" on Las Vegas ONE, Cox Channel 19.

Panelists for what the network is calling "a civilized conversation about health care" will include representatives from ACS CAN, American Heart Association, American Lung Association, AARP, Nevada State Medical Association, Nevada Public Health Association, Nevada Nurses Association, Regence BCBS and more.

Admission is free, but attendees must have tickets, which can be obtained at www.acscan.org/nevadaforum.

Free dental care to be made available

The Have a Heart free dental care program is accepting applications for a work to be done Oct. 27.

Five Boulder City dentists donate thousands of dollars worth of dental work through the program.

To apply, contact Emergency Aid of Boulder City 9 a.m. to noon at 293-0332 or one of the Boulder City school nurses. Once you are qualified, call the participating dentists to schedule an appointment.
