Approximate collision location
An 8-year-old boy riding a bicycle with another boy in the northwest Las Vegas Valley is in serious condition today after a morning collision with a 2001 Lexus GS 300 sedan, Metro Police said.
Both bicyclists were going east on the south side of Washington Avenue, crossing Minnesota Street about 8:08 a.m., police said.
The Lexus, driven by 51-year-old Kit Piya of Las Vegas, was traveling east on Washington Avenue in the far left lane, west of Minnesota Street and next to a witness in the right travel lane, police said.
As the Lexus entered the intersection, both bicyclists suddenly turned north and tried to ride across Washington Avenue, police said.
The second bicyclist was struck by the Lexus and taken to University Medical Center's pediatrics trauma unit with serious injuries, police said.
Washington Avenue between Michael Way and Decatur was shut down to traffic for about two hours.
The collision remains under investigation by Metro's Accident Investigation Section.

Wait, "suddenly"? So, the two kids on bikes, didn't stop, just turned left without looking and started riding across Washington in a crosswalk without a pedestrian green light? Or is there more to this story. There's been a lot of bicycle related crashes lately.
Maybe we should all pay more attention when we drive/ride?
Prayers for the children.
