Letter to the Editor:

For a few, it’s racism; for many, the policies

Monday, Sept. 21, 2009 | 2:02 a.m.

I am responding to the opinions expressed in Saturday’s Las Vegas Sun by letter writers Michael Parker, Joe Beltran and Robert Blanner.

Regarding Mr. Parker’s letter, headlined “Carter not afraid to tell it like it is”:

Some Americans will never support President Barack Obama because he is black and/or because he is a liberal Democrat.

However, a large percentage of those opposed to Obama are simply opposed to his policies. The president’s policies are big government, expensive and intrusive, and some Americans don’t agree with that.

Mr. Beltran says illegal immigrants will not be able to enroll in a government health plan because the “media” says they won’t. Please! Without a law stating that anyone requesting entrance to the plan show proof of citizenship, illegal immigrants will be in the plan.

Here is what ought to happen: Democrats should make a deal with Republicans. Given that illegal immigrants already here use emergency rooms, getting poor care at high cost to taxpayers, give them a path to citizenship and allow them in the plan. In exchange, start enforcing our current immigration laws and finally control our borders and have a sane legal immigration policy.

Regarding Mr. Blanner’s letter, headlined “Specter of racism rears its ugly head”:

Rep. Joe Wilson is an idiot and should not be reelected, but Congress is stupid to waste time on a vote to reprimand him. Congress has more important things to do. Let voters in his district decide how to punish him. Maybe they will vote him out or maybe they will be stupid and leave him in office. It’s their call.

Former President Jimmy Carter would be more helpful if he pointed out that there are racists in the midst of the tea parties but also admitted that they are probably a small minority. If we all don’t start making a better effort to see both sides of an issue and compromise in some areas, we are going to destroy our country.

Discussion: 104 comments so far…

  1. You had me until "path to citizenship."

Then you turned your letter into a Liberal rant, cleverly disguised as a voice of reason who was playing it down the middle. You didn't fool me.

  2. The wailer writes:
"Here is what ought to happen."

    How about this:

FIRST: Lets start enforcing our immigration laws and control the border.

    SECOND:

  3. Mr. Casler, Giving illegal immigrants a path to citizenship just to put them into the health plan then expecting our government to enforce immigration laws would be stepping back to the late 80's and making the same mistake twice.
Our Government has already shown the citizens of the United States that their interest lies in making more illegals citizens and continuing with the Security, Prosperity Partnership to form the North American Union.
The only idiots besides you are the ones in the House that didn't say a word when Obama was giving his speech pushing the Health Plan after taking SAVE out of the bill.

  4. Unless I'm forgetting something, didn't we do this under Reagan and wasn't that supposed to be "one time only?"

Why don't we all do ourselves a favor and Google "chain migration" (thank you Sen. Kennedy) and realize that legal or illegal... our borders need to be enforced/closed. We can't sustain the kind of migration that our country has embraced for the last 30 years... even for votes. Additionally, why do we want uneducated 3rd world people who do not have the value system we have in America like education?

Let's just save the whole world why don't we...on the backs of American taxpayer's....

Mr. Casler thinks Mr. Wilson is an idiot for lapse in judgement...I think Mr. Casler is an idiot for writing this ridiculous letter.

  5. judgesmales, FDR and Ray-Gun, they gave us the gift of criminal and illegal Mexicans. Those foreign nationals were needed during WWII, because the white California kids went off to fight in WWII. The illegals didn't go back home. Vietnam War, not so much. Rich white kids found sanctuaries in the National Guard, Peace Corps, VISTA, military reserves, etc. These were federal funded, "whites-only" country clubs. Mormons, they don't pay taxes and they dam& sure don't fight. Breeders Cup Champs!Cullers of Balck men. 55% of the soldier-draftees killed in Vietnam were Black, while we only comprised 12% of the nation's entire population.

GHWB and Gov. Romney (Nixon cabinet member) were determined their boys would never set-foot in Vietnam, even if it meant they would have to commit felony offenses in the process. GHWB and Romney both violated Truman's executive order (desegregation of our military units) and Civil Rights Act of 1964. GHWB single-handily resegregated all ofour military units, when he carved out an illegal slot for Boy George, in the "racially-segregated Texas Air NAtional Guard. When the stuff broke-out in Vietnam, Mitt adn Hatch, they donned their beret's, and they broke for Paris, France and their Mormon mission (freak-a-zoids). Silly me ! Didn't the U.S. Selective Service Board BAN all military religious draft deferments? Isn't draftdodging a FELONY offense? Hey Obama! Hey Holder! Why has Mitt-Hatch been allowed to submit foreged, falsified, and perjured Federal election applications? The plantation gates are dangling, "wide-open".

  6. "why do we want uneducated 3rd world people who do not have the value system we have in America like education?"

now, indy, you know the truth is not very PC. but in all honesty, what you say is not true of all of our illegal immigrants, just many of them.

why do we want them? "we" don't. greedy pig bosses who can't run a business without slave labor want them. the republicans want them for that reason, and the democrats want them for votes.

maybe it's time for us to become one-issue voters before we turn into the worst of california, where education has gone from one of the tops in the country to the toilet, social services are overwhelmed and state coffers cannot keep up, etc.

  7. hry biased thinker...
    did you really say this...
"Additionally, why do we want uneducated 3rd world people who do not have the value system we have in America like education?"...
do you feel superior to those less fortunate???
    are you an arrogant bigot???
    are you a racist???

  8. gunowners4obama: Can I tell you that I don't think I care about being PC anymore? Being called a racist sorta does that to a person. Well, at least me. And, I would once more point out again that with a government who does not in action support illegal immigration laws, we will get nowhere. Businesses will continue to break laws and the cycle will never be broken. Exploitating these workers just makes me sick! Now I sound a little liberal, don't I?

I grew up in LA (specifically the SF Valley) and I have posted before how illegal immigration has been so detrimental to my hometown. I used to think it was bad before, but now? I just shake my head. The left wing has spent so much time drumming into American's that it is our duty to shoulder the burden of all poor and needy that we have lost touch with how in generations past Americans took care of themselves and were personally accountable for their success or failure. Now we pander...for votes? I think we have completely lost sight of what works for America isn't necessarily going to work for another country. Mexico has just as many resources as we do and yet, in my mind, squanders them all. It makes no sense to me to bring down an entire economy ala California just because you feel sorry for them. Find another way to help. And believe me, my church youth group used to go down into Mexico to build housing for these poor villagers, so I am not without compassion, but when is enough enough? Never? I've also spent time in Central America, and again, I thought the poverty sickening. But, that does not make it an American problem. These last few years have given me the idea, right, wrong, or otherwise, that America needs to protect America and American interests first before tackling the rest of the world. Maybe, the rest of the world would step up and start taking care of their own and/or become more generous to the poorer nations like American's have always been, sharing the burden for the world's poorest and neediest. How's that for being politically incorrect?

  9. Can someone tell me what was the point of the lcdrmandingonamvet post...

I read his post twice and all I got out of it was a headache. I am still thinking about the "ray gun."

  10. Birdie: I see you are up to what you do best... calling people names.

NO I DO NOT FEEL SUPERIOR TO ANYONE...having said that, I still do not want our entire immigrant quota filled with the illiterate.

I think the more important question is...why do you? Unless of course you can relate to their illiteracy...

  11. Indy,

You have to understand that the "Bird" is a migratory creature.

During the Winter, the "Bird" heads south to Mexico and lives off their good will.

During the Summer, the "Bird" flies north to Canada and is a good participant in their free health care system.

The rest of the year, the "Bird" lives free in a cage in Harry's bathroom. The bathroom is luxurious except for the fact that it does not have a vent. After Harry has finished his morning constitutional, the smell lingers throughout the day. The "Bird" holds his breath until he turns blue and faints due to lack of oxygen. When the "Bird" comes to, his mind is confused and he goes to his computer to upchuck his swill.

That is why, when you read one of the "Birds" rants, you feel like you want to join him in upchucking a duck.

  12. Hey Icdrmandingonamvet: Don't forget money and power will do that to any man or woman rich people will always try to stay out of harms way but find a way to put you there instead' You know like Bill Clinton did buy running off to England. YEA I KNOW HE WAS JUST GOING TO COLLAGE!

  13. hey biased thinker...
    sorry skippy...
    ain't buying it...
there simply is no other way to interpret the crap that you spewed...
    namely...
"why do we want uneducated 3rd world people"...
but i do want to think you for providing a text book example of what i talk about all the time...
our stupid pathetic lying republican friends will lie straight to your face...
    straight to your face...
    they have lost all morals...
    they know they are lying...
    doesn't matter...
the ends always justify the means...
you know what my fave was...
sarah dumb as a bag of rocks palin is qualified to to be president...
    hee hee hee...
    hoo hoo hoo...
    haa haa haa...
    damn that is funny...
and the stupid pathetic lying republicans knew she wasn't qualified to be mayor of wasilla...
    but they didn't care...
    she was on their side...
    and like i said...
the ends always justify the means...
    hell...
these fools still defend w the scum bag liar loser clown!!!

  14. I didn't know bigotry was one of our cherished American values.

Getting back to the point of this letter, I'm not sure it's right. Don't forget, the majority of Southerners doubt Obama's birthplace. That's "few?"

    http://yglesias.thinkprogress.org/archiv...

Then you have nationally elected Republicans like Jean Schmidt who whisper "I agree with you!" to other racist birthers.

    http://www.salon.com/politics/war_room/2...

There are some people who have a legitimate problem with Obama's policies. But those people should be shouting down the bigots and racists who have become the voice and face of the Republican party. Instead, those racists and bigots have an open invitation to any and all Republican soirees!

If Republicans really want to reclaim their party, they should shun these backward, anti-American racists and bigots and present a thoughtful platform to reform government. Until they do that, the people in the middle, the TRUELY independent voters and thinkers, will shun the Republican party.

  15. Hey edgewise:

Who are the bigots and racists who have become the voice and face of the Republican party. Please list.

I think true independent voters have already shunned both the Republican and Democrat parties.

Call me a bigot and racist if you like, just don't call me late for dinner...

  16. "Who are the bigots and racists who have become the voice and face of the Republican party. Please list."

Both elected Republicans, like the aforementioned Jean Schmidt, and the majority of Southerners who doubt Obama's birthplace. (I mentioned both in the comment, I guess you're not fond of reading.)

Add in the obvious xenophobia of this particularly absurd comment:

"Additionally, why do we want uneducated 3rd world people who do not have the value system we have in America like education?"

The Republican party is appeasing the racists in their midst by failing to get control of the situation. That's disgusting to me.

Where are the people on the right side of the aisle condemning the racism?

"I think true independent voters have already shunned both the Republican and Democrat parties."

The independents came to Obama and the Democrats in droves, and Obama continues to have a clear majority of support among all voters.

  17. "However, a large percentage of those opposed to Obama are simply opposed to his policies. The president's policies are big government, expensive and intrusive, and some Americans don't agree with that."

This statement is unsupportable hogwash! It is merely your opinion and the facts do not match your opinion in the least. Most the crazed lunatics I see ranting and raving are in all white lynch mobs with no civilty, patriotism, or honor.

Just a buncha racists whether they are smart enough to recognize the racism in themselves or not.

Just because they deny and are to closed minded to see it, does mean it isn't there.

    Stop making things up.

  18. Giving illeagals a path to citizenship is inevitable. Does anyone honestly think the U.S. is going to round up millions and send them back to where ever they come from? Does anyone fully comprehend the manpower let alone the money this would take? It will make the money for health care look like childs piggy bank. I am all for controlling the borders but the ones that are here and have been here for years and even decades need to be put on that path because they AIN'T going no where.

  19. Yet another dumb baseless article. What nonsense!!!

Where do they find these writers for the Sun?

  20. If the government puts enough pressure on employers who hire illegals including some stiff fines and jailtime and then we cut all government services to illegals they will pack up and go home on their own. They came here for the money and if you cut off the money, they will leave. It is not complicated.

  21. edgewise:

So Jean Schmidt is the head of "the bigots and racists who have become the voice and face of the Republican party." So you make this sleazy statement and can't back up your comment?

Are you saying that Southerners who doubt Obama's birthplace are racists and bigots?

The rest of your rant is worthless.

edgewise, by YOU race baiting, YOU ARE THE RACIST AND BIGOT...

  22. Giving illegals a path to citizenship is not inevitable.

ICE will not and does not have a round up of illegals to enforce the immigration laws. They with the help of local law enforcement just need to continue to deport those illegals who are encountered braking the immigration laws of this country.

This includes those illegals who are violating the immigration laws by:

Residing in the U.S. without the proper visa.

Being employed in the U.S.without the proper visa.

Collecting public assistance in the U.S.

I think that will do it...

  23. Angry One says that "Most the crazed lunatics I see ranting and raving are in all white lynch mobs with no civility, patriotism, or honor.

    crazed lunatics
    no civility
    no patriotism
    no honor

    Really? Where and when?

Where were the white lynch mobs? I did not hear of any lynchings...

  24. Larry, you are hyperventilating.

I've backed up my statements of fact with proof. I think it's sad that you would appease the racists and bigots in your own party.

I think this is why the Republican party is in such disarray. Their leaders continue to hedge their bets between appeasing the racists and trying to appear open-minded and "independent." Sadly, they are neither.

The grassroots protests, where we saw poster-after-poster of racist and bigoted pictures of Obama speak the truth: the Republican party will appease the racists in their own party.

Why are you appeasing the racists, Larry?

  25. edgewise:

I will stand by my previous statement.

YOU, edgewise, by race baiting, ARE THE RACIST AND BIGOT...

  26. Oh, so pointing out obvious racism by Republicans is race baiting? How so, Larry?

I'm more troubled by your inability to argue the real evidence that racism is alive and well inside the Republican party, and why anyone would appease that kind of thinking.

Don't you think all this stuff is wrong, Larry?

  27. edgewise:

My opinion, and my opinion only is that there probably is approximately the same percentage of racists in both the Republican and Democrat parties.

There, now if you can PROVE me wrong, do so...

  28. edgewise,
    Thanks for the links.
    Good posts.

  29. "My opinion, and my opinion only is that there probably is approximately the same percentage of racists in both the Republican and Democrat parties. There, now if you can PROVE me wrong, do so..."

Your opinion is not based on facts, so there is nothing to disprove, as you have failed to prove something in the first place. Present some facts, Larry.

These people exhibiting this racism are leaders in the GOP. Elected representatives of the GOP agree with these racists.

Did you forget about the "Barack the Magic Negro" song distributed by the guy who was on the GOP's shortlist for national party chairman?
    http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/comm...

The longer the GOP appeases the racists in their party, the longer they will spend in the political wilderness.

  30. Edge: Pardon me, but it just begs the question...why do YOU want all these illiterates in our country? So YOU can feel better about yourself?

Millions of Americans do NOT share your opinion, and if given the choice between an I.A. over an educated person from another country they would pick the latter.

There are thousands of educated people who cannot get into the US... and yet you would argue in favor of the illegals. Is this some sort of personal bias or just a lack of objectivity on your part? Just askin...

  31. "Edge: Pardon me, but it just begs the question...why do YOU want all these illiterates in our country? So YOU can feel better about yourself?"

I didn't say I wanted more immigrants in the United States. Sorry, try reading again. Do you make up things to feel better about yourself?

"There are thousands of educated people who cannot get into the US... and yet you would argue in favor of the illegals. Is this some sort of personal bias or just a lack of objectivity on your part? Just askin..."

Well, when presented with two false choices, I'd have to pick neither indythinker. I'm not arguing in favor of illegal immigration. I'm saying that your portrayal of them as illiterate is bigoted.

The official literacy rate in Mexico is above 91%. Objectively, to stereotype immigrants as illiterate is xenophobic and bigoted.

  32. edgewiser:

Let's continue your little game now...

You said: "...bigots and racists who have become the voice and face of the Republican party."

I said: "Who are the bigots and racists who have become the voice and face of the Republican party. Please list."

You said: "Both elected Republicans, like the aforementioned Jean Schmidt, and the majority of Southerners who doubt Obama's birthplace. (I mentioned both in the comment, I guess you're not fond of reading.)"

I said: "So Jean Schmidt is the head of "the bigots and racists who have become the voice and face of the Republican party." So you make this sleazy statement and can't back up your comment?

You said: "I've backed up my statements of fact with proof. I think it's sad that you would appease the racists and bigots in your own party.

I said: "I will stand by my previous statement."

You said: "Oh, so pointing out obvious racism by Republicans is race baiting? How so, Larry?"

I said: "My opinion, and my opinion only is that there probably is approximately the same percentage of racists in both the Republican and Democrat parties."

You said: "Your opinion is not based on facts, so there is nothing to disprove, as you have failed to prove something in the first place. Present some facts, Larry."

    So, that's it... GAME OVER...

  33. Still wondering why you appease the racists in your party, Larry.

You claim that there are an equal amount of racists in both parties, but offer no proof of your claim, then demand that I disprove your theory.

    LOL! Game over!

Meanwhile, I present about a dozen examples of bigotry, racism and xenophobia by GOP leaders, GOP voters and even a Sun commenter that you can't even bring yourself to condemn.

It used to be that people were ashamed of racism. It seems the Republicans have no shame.

  34. Edge: You are absolutely right and I stand corrected. I checked, and it is what it is. And, all I can say to that is if they are a literate country, they must also be a country of lazy under-achievers. How else could a country have a literacy rate that high and have the issues it does? And, if they are so literate why are they only able to get the lowest paying jobs? Because I equate a modicum of intelligence with an ability to land a well-paying job. And the fact that they do not have better paying jobs, does that mean that "everyone" is biased against Hispanics?

I admittedly was ignorant on the whole "literacy" issue, but if they are so "literate" why are they in the position that they are? Why are their home hovels, their towns filthy barrios? Isn't there any correlation between intelligence and cleanliness? If not, there should be. And, that's not a Mexican issue...it's everywhere.

In retrospect, what I should have said is just knowing how to read isn't enough to gain citizenship. You should be able to bring something to the table. JUST LIKE EVERY OTHER COUNTRY ON THE PLANET...

  35. Edgewise likes to appease the racists in his party.

He claims that the Republican party has more racists then the Democrats but can not substantiate his remarks.

Most people avoid racist comments. But this is not the case with edgewise..

edgewise just loves to race bait...

  36. And, I bite every time, don't I?

  37. "Edgewise likes to appease the racists in his party."

Racism is wrong in any context. How's that for appeasing. Now, why can't you say the same thing, Larry?

"He claims that the Republican party has more racists then the Democrats but can not substantiate his remarks."

Actually, I never made that statement. Try reading again.

"Most people avoid racist comments. But this is not the case with edgewise.."

Well, Larry, obvious you want to IGNORE the blatant racism coming from the GOP and it's leaders. You've made that completely obvious. I would prefer to stand up to that kind of disgusting rhetoric.

You don't object to that kind of racist, xenophobic language.

  38. "And, all I can say to that is if they are a literate country, they must also be a country of lazy under-achievers."

More GOP bigotry! Talk about shooting yourself in the foot!

Indythinker, please keep your thinking to yourself. You aren't helping Larry's case.

  39. edgewise:

Oh, by the way, I am an Independent and don't care for either the Democrats or Republicans. This can be confirmed by reviewing my earlier posts.

You and other race baiters are what is wrong with the two major parties and one reason I and so many others now vote as Independents. I used to be a registered Democrat and still vote mainly for Democrats, but I am not tied to any party and will vote for the candidates that I feel are best qualified.

An example, I voted for Gibbons for Governor, but voted for Titus for Congress.

Besides, who I vote for is my business.

    Got it? Good...

  40. Edge...I'm not a Republican either. Good try though. And, exactly what is bigoted about being truthful? Now, if what I said was a lie... you'd have me then. I don't think you'll get too many folks to agree with you on this one. So either you live in a rose colored bubble...or maybe you live like them therefore don't see it. Either way that doesn't make me a racist or a bigot. Believe me other country's have many names for American's based on their personal persective.

Furthermore, calling anyone who is a Republican or conservative a race baiter or equating the acts of few as the norm for the rest of us is ridiculous, and frankly, becoming a bit boring. It's the same thing as saying every Democrat is a proponent of tax and spend.

BTW...I'm pretty sure Larry's a big boy and can speak for himself.

  41. Larry: stop equivocating and evading the issue.

Larry, in your opinion, is racism wrong?

  42. LV4LIFE writes: "I am all for controlling the borders but the ones that are here and have been here for years and even decades need to be put on that path because they AIN'T going no where."

If they won't go anywhere, that doesn't mean we automatically have to throw up our hands and say, "Oh, well." If they want to stay, they can continue to "live in the shadows" here because they do not have the rights of U.S. citizenship.

If they want their "rights" - whatever those rights might be -- they can come into the U.S. by the front door, not the Rio Grande.

  43. Gee Kevin... didn't you and I have a little issue about what is an appropriate question? I believe our topic was illegal immigration and I was told in no uncertain terms (gmag) that putting you on the spot was in poor taste. Hummmph!

  44. Well, the topic of the letter IS, in part, ABOUT racism. Why is it that the word just makes the Republicans go nuts, and go on big-time defense.
It's like an auto-response mechanism. "RACE BAITERS!"

  45. In no way is this an inappropriate question. Larry's accused someone of race baiting while refusing to answer a really straightforward question, indy"thinker."

Personally, I think such bigoted nonsense is irrational and emblematic of a simple mind. I would never stereotype an entire nation as "illiterate" or "lazy under-achievers."

As we've seen today, stereotyping any group as illiterate is just a prejudiced, illogical and ignorant way of thinking.

That kind of vile hatred should have no place in public discourse. I think people should keep their intolerance and bigotry to themselves.

You seem to disagree and want to publicize it. It's just a difference of opinion, indy"thinker."

  46. Well, gmag when you jumped my patootie after I asked Kevin an apparently personal and sensitive question, the letter/topic was about ILLEGAL's and my question was 100% relevant!

Just a mite hypocritical, don't ya think?

  47. gmag, the defensiveness is really interesting. They don't even take the time to criticize or disavow that wing of the republican party.

In fact, in equivocating, they're defending that kind of nonsense.

  48. Hey indythinker:

I have noticed that the amount of angry rhetoric coming out of the die hard Obama supporters has obtained a new peak.

Could it be that some of these supporters are beginning to lose faith in the President and his performance and their venting their frustrations?

Or... The President has approximately 30% of voters who are die-hards and will never leave him no matter what happens. The other 20-30% are the moderate Democrats and Independents who will step back from the President when they think they have to do so to save the Democratic Party.

As with George Bush, there became a point in his presidency that he lost the moderate Republicans and Independents.

Could this be beginning to also happen with the current administration?

  49. "Well, gmag when you jumped my patootie after I asked Kevin an apparently personal and sensitive question, the letter/topic was about ILLEGAL's and my question was 100% relevant!"

Indy"thinker," you're gonna have to refresh my memory. What question did you ask that I wouldn't answer?

  50. Hi Larry,

Would you say that racism is wrong? If not, why?

  51. ksand said:
"In fact, in equivocating, they're defending this kind of nonsense."
    Just so.
I am still wondering why if a person utters the word "racism" or "racist" why the right IMMEDIATELY cries "look! they're ANGRY! Race baiters!"
    HA? WHAT?

  52. Kevin...Much as I would love to jar your memory, I'm clearly no match for your obviously superior intelligence in the art of blogging repartee!

More to the point, racism is wrong...we all know it. But if you want to start talking who's the racists, I'd say you need to see that it's a two way street. As example, you should have been in my p/t job right after the November election. I have never in my entire life experienced such a sense of entitlement and I won't lie...it more than once brought me to frustrated tears as I try to be as respectful as possible and rarely treat anyone poorly. And, as example of the level of disrespect, customers talking on the phone as I'm trying to ask for a signature for a credit slip and being given such a look of absolute disgust because I "interrupted." Not to mention that they were completely oblivious to the long line behind them. So don't go there. Sadly, it's everywhere to some extent, but it's not solely a WHITE issue and I'm not sure you get that. And, that's truly a shame.

Maybe if you had been called racist for the past year you would actually understand why anyone other than a Liberal gets all worked up.

  53. Racism is wrong and so is "dropping the race bomb" just because your opinion of somebody is challenged.

I am sick of the libs who worship Obama screaming "racism" just because we don't like his politics. I couldn't stand Bill Clinton, what does that make me a "sexist"?

  54. LOL...

  55. "More to the point, racism is wrong...we all know it. But if you want to start talking who's the racists, I'd say you need to see that it's a two way street."

Oh my gosh! Well thank you for opening my eyes! Indy"thinker," who are you kidding, here? First, you throw out the red herring of, "it's not just us!" You think that excuses something?

Secondly, there are several people here who deny that race is a factor in criticizing Obama's policies. Edge gave a handful of examples of blatant and shameless racism from some republican leaders.

Not a single republican has decried those members of their own party.

I think many republicans are in denial about how racism has played a part in the criticism of Obama. Is racism the basis of ALL criticism? Of course not... but as we've seen today: even the most "independent" of voters harbor ignorant prejudices about Hispanics.

That rodeo clown Glenn Beck called Obama racist, and he's one of the great thinkers of the republican party. I'm not sure how much of a compliment that is, but take it as you will.

"Maybe if you had been called racist for the past year you would actually understand why anyone other than a Liberal gets all worked up."

It makes no sense to get worked up over an accusation that has no basis in truth.

There is legitimate criticism of Obama that has no basis in his race. When the republican party's members continue to attack Obama as being foreign-born or questions his faith, how can anyone deny that's based on his race?

  56. ksand99:
Why would anyone want to respond to you or edgewise. You both distort the facts and are race baiters.

No wonder Republicans who post here do not want to reply to your nonsense. You both are like a couple of kids in your interaction with others.

  57. Larry,
    there you go again.
You answer a question with a putdown.
What do you dispute in their posts?

  58. The word "racism" appears to be the new icon of the Democratic party.

If you have a different political view then this President or the Democratic party, then you will be called a racist.

It worked for Obama during the primary in South Carolina says Clinton. It was used several times during the election by the Democrats and now being used again, since the polls are showing that Obama is rapidly losing the support that he received from the independent voters. It is looking like the Democrats will probably only control Congress for two years and have a one term president.

To make things bleaker for the Democrats, during the August break, Democratic Congressmen across the nation, discovered that the voters are disappointed in their performance. And if they continue on the path they are headed, they will not return to Washington D.C. after the next election. Now Democratic Congressmen, from both houses of Congress have a choice to make. Either vote with the Party in their Socialist march or cast their vote with the voters and gain reelection. Some Democratic Congressmen may not have to worry, if they are from a big city loaded with Democrats. But Senators and Congressmen from smaller towns and rural areas across America better vote with their constituents or face expulsion.

This may explain why the Democrats, controlling both houses of Congress, can not get a health passed in either house. The same is happening to Tax and Trade.

And notice how the Democrats in Congress did not wait for a blessing from the President before passing a bill to cut funding to ACORN.

So the Democrats who came into Congress on Obama's coat tails will be returning home soon if they don't change their ways.

I don't like to bash and I mean the Democrats no harm, but some of the zealots who post here are nothing but baiters.

  59. Lets call it a night and don't let the bed bugs bite.. The "Bird" will up before dawn to grab that first worm and crow on this site.

  60. Oh Larry, I guess now is your time to cut and run.

Now, why won't you just admit that the racism and bigotry on display from some republicans is wrong? Don't you think it's vile and disgusting? I think it's beneath contempt. I think it's apparent that those who would excuse and appease the racists in the republican party should be held to the same standard.

So, Larry, don't you think the racism on display by the republicans is wrong?

  61. "If you have a different political view then this President or the Democratic party, then you will be called a racist."

A gross oversimplification of the facts. There are some credible republicans that criticize Obama based on his policies. But others, like Sarah Palin, rely on fear tactics and play to bigotry rather than explaining why her policies would be better.

"Or... The President has approximately 30% of voters who are die-hards and will never leave him no matter what happens. The other 20-30% are the moderate Democrats and Independents who will step back from the President when they think they have to do so to save the Democratic Party."

30+30 = 60% are Dems or Independents, right?

"It was used several times during the election by the Democrats and now being used again, since the polls are showing that Obama is rapidly losing the support that he received from the independent voters."

Last poll I saw had Obama's Presidential approval at 58%. You're claiming that a loss of 2% is a big problem? You're not too clear on politics, are you?

And let's get one thing clear about the republican mob's pitiful attempt to sway the voters: it didn't work. Voters still support health care reform. Voters still support a public option. Voters still support the Democrats in Congress more than the republicans. All that vitriol and hatred from the republicans and the Democrats are still firmly in charge.

All that anger and misplaced rage turned out to be impotent.

Well, it turned out to be somewhat impotent. It also laid bare for the world to see how some republicans are complacent with the bigotry and hatred inside their party. They celebrated their hatred of Obama, celebrated the death of Teddy Kennedy, and used lies and slander to try (but fail) to sway public opinion.

The only confirmed the worst fears of the independent voters: the republican party is a relic, still recycling old dogma and ideologies that have been proven to fail. They can't even get their stuff together enough to find a real leader. Look at the straw poll for the republican nominee for President? All over the place! Huckabee, Romney, Palin. All these failed candidates and also-rans!

I think the republican party has a long way out of the wilderness before normal, free-thinking and tolerant Americans will consider letting them have control again. The republicans destroyed our economy, destroyed our leadership in the world, abandoned basic American ideals and sold-out to the worst in their party.

Too bad Larry just doesn't get it.

  62. Larry never will get it.

  63. This entire debate is just a circle jerk orchestrated by a has-been politician who couldn't wait to drop this bomb and see himself in the limelight again. Maybe Carter was upset Obama didn't chose him in lieu of Clinton to go to N Korea to free those girls. One thing is for sure. Carter knew his diatribe would trust him into worlds limelight. I'm also pretty sure Carter knows his statement is not fundamentally true. When I see something like this, I think to myself, why? What else that is truly news worthy do the Sodomite Masonic powers that be want us to neglect in exchange for this psychobabble? Maybe the intent of this whole affair is to make people in general scared to oppose Obama's health care plan with subliminal fears they're being racist? Of course that's the intent. It simple programming. Tell a lie enough times and it becomes the truth type of situation. Carter also gave Obama a chance to look like a "good guy" by coming out and saying he does not agree.

Let me now reveal the truth about race, we all favor and prefer our own race, by nature, as well as our country of origin. (nationalism) Nobody says having national pride is bad. Are all races equal? According to history, no. According to genetics, no. All races are created to fulfill the nature of their creation. Some races are more adept at being inventors, ship builders, etc. Other races are better at living off the land, yet others are better at being beasts of burden (doing hard work) and are made physically more adept. This is not politically correct to state of course, but it's the truth. Libs who write the books have things all twisted up to try and convince us that we're all the same, we all have the same abilities, etc. Please. Why then do they find "lost tribes" in jungles still chucking spears and wearing loin cloths in the 21st century? Why didn't they invent a car, plane, or computer? Because they are fulfilling the measure of their creation. Today, the race of people who invented everything and brought civilization to the mongrel people of the world who have now all congregated in this great "melting pot" experiment that is the USA are being told that they can't have pride in their genetic make-up, to think they're genetically better than the spear chucking pigmie's is "racist" and not true. The truth about Obama is that he's not black or white, he's a half breed who's mother happened to be of the blood line of the Masonic "gods" thus Obama was qualified to become POTUS. He's not black at all and more "white" that most whites who do not have royal blood running through their veins! If you think for one minute that just anyone can become POTUS, you're ignorant and don't know the history of the USA, the Freemasons, or Satan, the god of the USA. I know the nature of the beast, and thus, I cannot be deceived, and I cannot tell a lie, even if it's not politically correct.

  64. Since I'm in a sharing mood today, I'll also enlighten you folks as to whether or not Obama was born in the US and is in fact eligible to be POTUS. Sorry to dissapoint my fellow conservatives on this issue, but he was born in Hawaii. What you may not know is that his father is not from Kenya, but from Chicago. A man you call Malcolm X. His mother was hired to spy on his revolutionary gang, and ended up getting prego. In HI, 13 is considered "legal" so the CIA moved her to HI to give birth. They then went on to pay for his higher education and groomed him to lead us into the NWO. More info: http://sparkoflifemedia.com/?p=248

PS. Wonder why the MSM have never covered this angle? DNA is a MF, huh Obama! Apple doesn't fall far from the tree!

  65. I am sorry to report that it appears that the teamster has joined edgewise and ksand99 as race baiters...

  66. I love how most of the commenters are firmly entrenched in the LEFT/RIGHT PARADIGM! You say "what's that?"...well google it and you'll realize what complete idiots you are! The bankers control BOTH parties and always have (since 1913!). Who supported the un-Constitutional bailouts? Bush AND Obama (AND McCain)!! Who supports the un-Constitutional undeclared wars in Iraq and Afghanistan? Bush AND Obama!! Who supports the un-Constitutional warrantless wire-tapping, renditions, prisoner torture, etc.? Bush and Obama!! I don't see Obama calling for anyone to be investigated OR charged!! Who supports the un-Constitutional Military Commissions Act, un-Constitutional Patriot Act, the un_Constitutional removal of Habeus Corpas? Bush and Obama!! While you idiots argue over the stupid stuff, the bankers laugh at you...WAKE UP!!

  67. I admire the bravery of those strong enough to stand up to and call out blatant racism when it exists, in either party.

Those who sit in the shadows, silent and undisturbed when those in their own party say disgusting things should be ashamed of themselves.

Those who lack the courage to even say that bigotry and racism are wrong are weak, and lack the American values that make our country strong.

  68. The only reason racism exists today is because of the democrats and their lunatic policies. When these idiots get rid of the programs that enable their followers not to be accountable for their actions and suck off the system for life then racism will go away.

As far the illegal immigrants go, Obama is going to legalize all of them prior to the healthcare bill or immediately following passage of a healthcare care. Obama and clan will then open the boarder up allowing free access to America. They will continue to do this to ensure their voting pool continues to vote their bungers into office thus securing a socialist America.

Come 2010 and 2012 American's either vote the democrats out of office or accept their policies their cramming down our throats.

  69. and they open their mouths and prove it to be true; Again, and again, and again...

  70. edgewise is out fishing again. He just baited the hook and waiting for someone to bite. Then he will jump on them and demean them for fun.

  71. Edge is right, Larry. Only cowards would appease racists.

  72. ksand99 has joined edgewise in baiting and they are now trolling for someone to respond to their comments.

    Be careful out there...

  73. There are racist in every race but it always seems like everyone always points the finger at the one race of racist.
If I get called a cracker I don't crumble but the minute we throw a slur there way it's the end of the world.
The whole race card playing game is way out of hand and believe me "I'm not prejudice I really do hate everybody" my tactical gear is ready, my guns are cleaned and loaded, and both tanks on my truck are always full so I wish everyone would quit there crying and lets get it started! Maybe they should put there efforts into something other than tea bagging each other!
And I always thought Obama was half white so does that mean if I grow an Afro I'll be considered an Afro American or just a cracker with a Afro?

  74. Wallbanger, I could no more than agree with you. Both the Democrats and Repulicans take turns eating stupid pills and both take turns helping their big business CEO buddies with whom they cater to. Neither side gives a damn about "we the people" and thats to bad. The access we have to the different media websites gives us all an eyefull of what our PARTY is doing right and what their PARTY is doing wrong, and that goes both ways. We have all got to come together and agree that both parties are f**ked up and work together to reach a solution. If not we will forever be arguing like two old hens, never reach a solution, and our elected officials will be taking turns driving us crazy until we become one.
    Remember, "Strength in numbers".

I don't want to be right
I just want to make it right

  75. Larry getting PWND over and over and over and coming back for me, what a riot.

Poor Larry, can't have a debate on facts, must always respond with 'oh yeah, well you are too'. Like a little child. Hey Lar, you are forgetting to leave out the 'neener, neener, neener' part.

Notice how he (nor any other neoCon here) never answered a very simple question - if racism is bad, why aren't the republican leaders condemning 'the few' in their party clearly exhibiting racist behavior, rather than cheerleading and making martyrs out of them??

Don't worry, we don't expect a straight answer, Larry.

  76. Hey JahReb, are you another race baiter? You sound like you are.

First: I have no idea what PWND means, please enlighten me...

Second: Give me some facts big boy...

Third: As I have said many times before, I do not belong to any political party. Both the Republican and Democrat parties have members who are racist. Are you one???

Fourth: I do not believe you know what straight is. Your second paragraph is a good example of what happens when one's mind has been completely taken over by political worms...

  77. Hey JanReb... Who are you? I never used your name on any previous post.

    Are you edgewise?
    How about ksand99?
    Maybe gmag39?

I may be on to something here... Just maybe all four are the same person. He goes by four names to impress us with numbers.

How many more of you are there JanReb???

Maybe someone there with steady mind will help me find one name to call all FIVE...

  78. Larry, Larry, Larry.
it's jahreb, not janreb. Click on the name. he/she has posted many times.
    For the last time, FYI...
    As per Sun Policy,
    I POST UNDER ONE NAME...
    Got that, Skipper?

  79. Hey gmag39 or is it edgewise? no, how about ksand99 or janreb?

I may not know much, but I do know that you can have several email addresses with different providers.

To me you all are the same and nothing but a race baiter...

  80. I agree that this has become a race thing whether people deny it, Barack Obama is being prudent to not create more tensions.

Otherwise you wouldn't have people calling him a "muslim" (which implies foreigness) or to show his birth certificate. Makes you think, why didn't they ever ask previous Presidents for that (who were all white).

The press (Faux News) has also alianated him and idiots like Rush Limbaugh, Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck (who are all uneducated, really, how can you get informed from people who did poorly at college or didn't even go? [Limbaugh])

Wake up people, the rich are using the middle class and poor for their agenda.

  81. Obama was lactating during his "America bad,The rest of the world is good" speech today! meow or whatever the hell you call yourself, Are you a man? What a joke!

  82. I refuse to give you my gender and implying racism due to my gender or making fun of is unacceptable on these boards. Maybe it's because you didn't understand the speech and the best way to defend yourself is to provide an ad hominem fallacy? good job!

As far as I know Pres. Obama was asking for more cooperation from other States and to ask less of the United States. Doesn't sound "America bad, the rest of the world is good".

Did you not see that China is doing a bigger effort to lower down its pollution? or Japan? While our Republicans here are the only ones complaining about everything and how large companies hire scientists to "prove their claims".

It's great being a rich person in the United States! We get to use the poor and middle class :)

  83. Hey Meow...

Just a few questions in direct relation to your post.

How did FOX NEWS alienate the President?

What do you consider uneducated means?

Did you say that people who did not go to college are uniformed?

You say "It's great being a rich person in the United States!" I take it you are a rich person?

  84. "How did FOX NEWS alienate the President?"

You haven't seen enough of their videos or news, have you?

What do you consider uneducated means?"

Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity. All ...intellectually weak. Couldn't stand a civil debate to a college lecturer/professor. They would laugh at their lack of knowledge of politics or anything regarding political science, economics, etc.

"Did you say that people who did not go to college are uniformed?"

No. Most are though and lack understanding of what things mean (example: socialism). They're easy to mislead and guide around (Look how Sarah Palin mislead thousands of people with her "death panels" or Illegals being covered by Obama's plan, which isn't true)

"You say "It's great being a rich person in the United States!" I take it you are a rich person?

Not necessarily, I don't have to put how much I earn or my economical status. But it's great with all the tax cuts that benefit mostly the privileged few! I'm down for it. Billionaires for Wealthcare is what it's all about it. Leave everything to corporations since they care more about us.

  85. WTF! people like you are an embarrassment to say the least. I take it your rich by your post there little puss n boots,Good for you. China will never take a bigger effort to do anything unless there's a profit to be had or resource to kill! Do you even know the amount of smog that L.A. receives from china alone? This president commands no respect, All he can do is come up with a bunch of apologies for his view of how this nation should be.

  86. Alright Spock, on what planet do you spend most of your time on?

    lol!

"China will never take a bigger effort to do anything unless there's a profit to be had or resource to kill!"

And the U.S. wouldn't? How do you know? State your source and it better be a valid one. Also which profit and resource are you talking about?

"Do you even know the amount of smog that L.A. receives from china alone?"

Do you know the amount of smog that the U.S. produces itself? It's greater than China's I can assure you.

"This president commands no respect, All he can do is come up with a bunch of apologies for his view of how this nation should be."

So when he tries to do a comprehensive bill, all Republicans do is say "No." and is reached with fierce opposition? What?

Another great thing for the wealthy! Less regulations for those who work in the industry. Only one can hope that there is not an increase in regulation...or it means we're going to become Communists/Socialists/Facists!!!!

  87. Meow, Hey there my little freind, You come across like a real idiot! The FOX team couldn't stand up to a so called professor? Shake yourself while your still someone to respond to!

  88. HAHAHAHA.

Oh, you're one of those "dems are afraid of Palin" people. Which is pretty laughable when she couldn't respond to a question about the Bush Doctrine.

No, they can't stand to a professor. The Fox team is full of people who don't even have a college degree. It's not a good source to get your news from. Are you telling me it is?

    Ask yourself these questions Spock.

How is Fox News a valid station to watch? Are their reporters QUALIFIED to do the work? What credentials do they have for me to look at it? How is Limbaugh a great source, when he couldn't even pass a college class? Or Hannity, or Beck himself the struggling drug addict?

Also thanks for offending me and not keeping a civil and honest discussion. Shake myself? Of course not! I laugh at lack of knowledge.

  89. I'm not trying to offend you, Just understand you. Are you saying that one needs a degree to make the distinction between what works for the country and what fails! The only reason Obama is where he's at is because the "common" folk like myself had enough with the "Border means nothing Bush". Please, Enlighten me on the lies that Fox has deceived the populace with as you choose to call it! By the way, China is responsible for about 25 to 30 % of the smog on any given day for the L.A. region. Look it up!

  90. Here spock:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ouKJixL--...

I'm not sure if I'm allowed but it's a good link.

I'm not saying one need a degree, but an education itself which is hard to get anywhere else. I don't see too many people studying up on the public libraries for fun when they work.

I don't doubt that China produces a lot of the smog, but the U.S. does too and we can't even get a great bill to limit the contamination due to Republican skeptics. If they want their way they'll just hire a scientist that'll make it seem as if global warming wasn't a real thing. What's wrong with protecting the planet in general? Better early than too late.

  91. mr. meow..

Who are you to judge who is qualified to do what?

When you knock FOX NEWS, you show your ignorance that you probably don't watch them. You probably gets your news from that far left group, media matters.

Some of you on the far left urinate yourself when you hear the name FOX NEWS.

When you make statements like you did, you lose creditability...

  92. Oh but I do watch them and analyze them, it's part of my job. They claim how they're "unbiased" it isn't true, although it's a good place to get another side of the story, that I won't deny unlike CNN or NBC.

I don't consider myself part of the far left...I'm socially conservative so I disagree with many of their things. I'm independent.

I like being sarcastic, come on, get the jokes especially with people who can't keep a civil debate, but you Larry, I like you so I won't do that.

  93. Hey meow doggydog,if you'd read the whole story of Joe Wilsons "You lie" statement your ignorance wouldn't be sticking out like the rock of gibralter, or is that stupidity. Save was taken out of the bill which would have determined if a person was a citizen of the U.S. or not. After the "you lie" extravaganza on the following Friday the house put SAVE back into the bill.

  94. Meow, How many NEW coal plants does China operate a month?

  95. Meow.

I read the whole thing. Also, it's Gibraltar.

    Once again:

    http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/...

    That's for you fremmasmind ^^^

spock - Many. I'm aware China pollutes a lot, don't forget about us, Americans.

  96. birdiedreamin
You can't even spell, how can anyone take you serious when you clearly arent educated??

  97. Mr. Meow, If you read the whole article you would be aware that since hospitals are forced to give free meds to illegals, Joes' bill would reimburse the hospitals for the meds given to illegals. He's trying to help the hospitals out a little bit. None of the money goes to the illegal.

  98. Racism does exist. It is reverse racism; the African American community has used slavery for their excuse long enough and it's time to stop the cycle they've used as their excuse for too many years. I or my family has nothing to do with the past, it is the present. Stop blaming the present on their choices.

Here are a few examples of reverse racism.

Where is the outrage with the white man being hanged? If this were a black man the media and the feds would be all over this. They're both quite about this event.

The children at B. Bernice Young Elementary School were forced to see President Obama as a God by singing a song about him. They replaced the work god with Obama, where is the outrage on this.

Had any of the above been done by a white person the media and prosecutors would be offering rewards and seeking the public's help to find the white man. Big deal and white man was hung and the school force fed a song down children's throat indoctrinating Obama, this is clearly racism only reverse.

  99. Uhm, uhm, uhm, Barack Hussein Obama
He said all should lend a hand to make the country strong again
Uhm, uhm, uhm, Barack Hussein Obama
He said we must be fair today, equal work means equal pay
Uhm, uhm, uhm, Barack Hussein Obama
He said take a stand, make sure everyone gets a chance
Uhm, uhm, uhm, Barack Hussein Obama
He said red, yellow, black and white, all are equal in his sight
Uhm, uhm, uhm, Barack Hussein Obama
    YEAH. Barack Hussein Obama

  100. "Racism does exist. It is reverse racism; the African American community has used slavery for their excuse long enough and it's time to stop the cycle they've used as their excuse for too many years. I or my family has nothing to do with the past, it is the present. Stop blaming the present on their choices."

Not just slavery, don't forget the segregation that occurred in the 30's-60's, not too long ago.

Segregation still occurs to this day, look at the San Juan Capistrano school district in San Diego.

WHITES ARE AFRAID OF MINORITIES, IT'S A FACT. Otherwise, they wouldn't be hiding in the suburbs or try to separate themselves from the rest.

    Fremmasmind: http://www.opencongress.org/articles/vie...

    Barack Hussein Obama.
    That's the full name, yes.

  101. Whites are not afraid of minorities, we're sick of taking care of their lazy ways. Get a job like the rest of us and quit sucking off the system. They need to take ownership of their choices and stop blaming the past for their present. If they're living in San Juan Capistrano then they should be able to afford to stay and play with the ones who work for a living. If they're sucking off the system then they better move to an area where the cost of living is affordable or better yet, GET A JOB...

Keep up the good posts, as stated in an earlier post; we love your liberal posts. The posts just reaffirm why not to vote for lunatic liberals, a bunch of undereducated affirmative action recipients replying with nonsense.

  102. its2hot...whew. Get some air.

  103. You see, that's what's wrong with them. So if they're not afraid, they don't want them around.

"we're sick of taking care of their lazy ways. Get a job like the rest of us and quit sucking off the system. They need to take ownership of their choices and stop blaming the past for their present."

So ALL minorities are lazy? Check your facts, the majority work before stating a baseless opinion. You talk as if you're something different, rather than Americans.

"If they're living in San Juan Capistrano then they should be able to afford to stay and play with the ones who work for a living."
    Once again check your facts.

    http://articles.latimes.com/2008/sep/02/...

"Keep up the good posts, as stated in an earlier post; we love your liberal posts. The posts just reaffirm why not to vote for lunatic liberals, a bunch of undereducated affirmative action recipients replying with nonsense."

They're not liberal, they're common sense. Obviously educated since I can provide a reasonable argument without going into offending someone because they're a minority or not. Oh and Affirmative Action recipients tend to be just as educated as those who aren't, once again check your facts. I guess we're going to stay with the status quo since our education is down the drain.

Stop listening to those AM Radio talk hosts who aren't even college educated, something even affirmative action recipients have.
