Specter of racism rears its ugly head

I have never been big on Jimmy Carter, but when he says that racism is still alive and thriving in the South as well as other parts of the country, he is right. Behind it recently is the reality of white people being governed by a black president.
It’s a feeling that exists not just with some Republicans, but with some Democrats as well. How much of it exists because of the Barack Obama presidency would be hard to measure, but it is safe to say that it is enough to stop much of what President Obama is trying to accomplish for the American people.
When the rude remark of Joe Wilson, on the floor of the House, is applauded, I think it bears witness to what is becoming a very nasty chapter in America’s book.

I am confident that the White House just cringes when they read or hear statements like this.
Keep playing the race card because it will just hurt Obama.
It is one thing to play race card if one could supported it with clear and demonstrable facts.
It is another thing to play race card just because you do not like the politics of people.
Then it becomes whining and greatly devalues claims of real racism and it also in turn devalues Obama.
Keep playing it over and over and over again.
Somebody says that Obama wants to raise taxes. Play the race card.
Somebody says that Obama is wrong to appease the Russians by dropping the missile defense system in Europe.
Play the race card.
Somebody says that Obama's health care reform is just a big government move to takeover healthcare.
Play the race card.
Is there racism on the right? Yes
Is there racism in the middle? Yes
Is there racism on the left? Yes and probably more of it.
This is not "playing the race card". It is speaking the truth. How about some intellectual honesty among so-called conservatives?
1. If during the Bush administration, a Democratic congressman had shouted, "you lie!" at Bush, he would have been forcibly evicted right then and there.
2. If anyone had shown up with guns, to a Bush rally, they'd have been arrested. People wearing protest T-shirts WERE arrested.
3. Admit that the predominance of rage against Obama is because of race. I see it plainly. Others see it plainly. The so-called conservatives, in denial, do not see it.
As a staunch liberterian I have a strong dislike of government. Obama desires to make government bigger and more intrusive into my life. How could oppposing his policies, which I detest, be construed as racism?

Yesterday Obama told us that Jimmy Carter was lying. It is a normal on topic debate.
"There's been a long-standing debate in this country that is usually that much more fierce during times of transition, or when presidents are trying to bring about big changes," Obama told CNN.
To NBC News, Obama put it this way: "It's an argument that's gone on for the history of this republic, and that is, What's the right role of government? How do we balance freedom with our need to look out for one another? ... This is not a new argument, and it always evokes passions."

When Obama says "it's not about race", you believe he's telling the truth? How come? You didn't believe him when he said "illegals aren't covered"?

You keep posting comments but you don't seem to read the comments. It was explained by Sgt Rock in simple terms how Obama was lying when he said that illegals weren't covered in the health care reform bills. I'll repeat it here for you...
Some facts:
1) A Congression Research Study (CRS) generated by a government agency stated there is nothing in the House bill that prevents illegals from signing up for the public option.
2) In the same CRS, it says that House expands Medicaid coverage including coverage for illegals
3) In the House bill, there is no enforcement, penalities or monitoring. It would be like saying the speed limit is 70 mph but there would be no penalties for breaking the speed limit and there would be no cops to monitor people breaking the speed limit.
The White House now agrees with Lewis and is supporting enforcement being part of any reform bill.
4) Obama recently said that yes he does not want illegals to get credits for medical coverage but he wants to make all the illegals legal and then the now-turned legals would get credits for medical coverage.
So when I disliked Slick Willie...it was because he was white and not his politics? Um....okay!

Go ahead and oppose 'Obama's policies,' but your signs should say "BUSH STARTED IT, OBAMA IS FINISHING IT - SOCIALISM." The problem with the tea baggers is they did not become enraged until Obama took office, even though Bush clearly put us on the path to socialism. Maybe if you at least acknowledged that Bush was just as much a socialist as Obama, yet no one took to the streets then, it wouldn't appear to be racially motivated. To this day, the majority of folks picketing and yelling won't admit Bush was a socialist. Since you're a libertarian you were probably one of the ones who was outraged by the bailouts, but let's face it, the majority of Glenn Beck-obsessed "conservatives" would never say that. A poster of Bush's face was made to look like the Joker (just like the Obama one), it's easily found on the Internet. I haven't seen anyone hold that one up at any of the rallies...I understand he is no longer Pres., but HIS policies, the Patriot Act, the bailouts, all unconstitutional...are you not enraged about any of that?

a lot of conservatives were pissed at the war, the unaccountability, the missing money, blackwater, the patriot act, and the concept af another drawn out conflict that in the end would be considered ambigous in its results.
what a lot of these people want is less government, not more, and some form of integrity on the hill which seems to be a problem in both parties. what brought these peole out are legitimate concerns. and the concept that accountability seems to be farther away than it was then.
in 8 months this government has managed to outshine 8 years of bush with its newfound fiscal responsibility.
the current administartion just put the last couple of bales of straw on the camels back.

Hmmmmm....allow me to get this straight. You're saying that since the citizens of South Carolina (I might add, both black & white) paid to have the Capital built, they can, if they decide to, fly a Confederate flag above the Capital dome. Do I have that right?
I didn't realize that all the blacks in South Carolina liked the Confederate flag. I thought most blacks in South Carolina (and through out the South) looked upon the Confederate flag as a symbol of slavery and racism.....boy, was I wrong!

Hmmmmmm.....so I guess you don't believe in man's capacity for improvement. Historians often refer to the belief that man can change; man can become a better person and make society a better place simply as transcendentalism. Maybe you have never heard of it? I guess you don't believe in it?

I never said I supported the concept of racism, but I don't support war and poverty either, all three just happen. Jesus in the Bible said that the poor will always be with us. How many wars are going on in the world right now? Probably a 20 or so. We spent 7 trillion dollars on the war on poverty and we have more poor than ever before. Although racism is more covert in the USA, there are several racial based wars going on in Africa right now. Unfortunately none of this is going away. If you read the Old Testament strictly as a historical document you will find a number of wars based stirctly on race. I realize what I said is not pretty, but I think it is a fact we have to deal with.

Obama wasn't called a liar, he said "YOU LIE" You show me a politician who hasn't told a lie and I'll show you a liar every time. Understand the words used and then reply with a legitimate reason he is being called a racist.
Democrats will stop at nothing to keep racism alive and kicking. You need to get over this and move on. Our forefathers were the ones that had slavery and promoted such, racism / slavery is just excuse to keep the cash flowing to ensure African Americans have something for nothing and aren't held accountable for their actions or choices. Instead democrats have kept the race card alive and well for years and are enabling the white person to be blamed for their poor choices they made in their life.
Stop using white people for what occurred many years ago. We're sick and tired liberals enabling such stupid excuses and enabling their sick behavior. What you liberals fail to realize not only are you promoting racism you're teaching them to lie, cheat, and steal every time you play the race card. As children they learn from the hatred you preach. Stop it and America will become less divided and the healing process finally be over with. Until then you reap what you preach. So, I now live in a country that I can not disagree with the president because he is black. I have to follow blindly if I want to avoid the label of a racist. The reason why Obama is getting a lot of critism is more people are paying attention to what is going on. I wasn't a huge fan of Bush toward the end of his presidency because of the way he started to lean toward socialism, and Obama is gonna continue us down that path.
Plus if you look at exit poll data from the election you can find that 96% of black voters voted for Obama, but somehow thats ok. I am beginning to see that the only people who can be racist in this country are the evil "white man". Well I guess I'm gonna have to take the name calling because I am not just gonna hide and cower because of I may be unjustly labeled as a racist.

There is discrimination in every single race. It's nothing new, nor will it ever go away. I've been black for 44 years and I've accepted the fact that it's human nature to fear what we do not understand and instead of trying to understand, we lash out and try to hurt or destroy. Did I ever tell you my mother was a life long Democrat. She went to the grave, voting Democratic. I don't think she ever voted for a Republican in her whole life. I think she died after voting for Clinton the second time...
She gave so much to the Democratic party that they gave her a special funeral. Really nice... After the funeral service, they took her flowers and casket and gave them to some one less fortunate then her...
