100-degree heat headed to Las Vegas again

Temperatures hotter than normal through weekend

Friday, Sept. 18, 2009 | 6:47 a.m.

The last weekend of summer will bring a blast of 100-degree heat to the Las Vegas area, says the National Weather Service.

The weather service says high afternoon temperatures will hit close to the triple-digit mark today through the weekend.

However, forecasters have scaled back their earlier prediction that temperatures were going to soar to a record high on Tuesday, the first day of fall.

This morning, temperatures were starting in the upper 70s and were expected to hit 94 degrees by noon and reach a high of 99 by about 3 p.m. today, forecasters said.

The normal high for today's date is 93 degrees and the record high is 108 degrees, set in 1937.

The weather service said a northeasterly flow will persist over the area through today, pulling a little moisture into northwest Arizona and enabling isolated showers and thunderstorms to develop there.

In the Las Vegas Valley, temperatures will fall overnight to about 77 degrees, then climb Saturday to 95 degrees by noon and 100 degrees by 3 p.m. under sunny skies, forecasters said.

The hot and sunny weather will continue well into next week, with temperatures about five to six degrees above normal, forecasters said.
