CARSON CITY – Gov. Jim Gibbons has elevated former Assembly Speaker Bob Barengo to be chairman of the Nevada Tax Commission, succeeding Thomas Sheets, who resigned earlier this year.
Barengo, a Democrat, has been a member of the tax commission since 2003 and he practices law in Reno. He served in the Assembly from 1972 to 1982.
The governor has not named a replacement to the commission for Sheets.
The eight-member commission sets policy for the Nevada Department of Taxation.
