Letter to the editor:

News anchor’s actions deplorable

Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2009 | 2:02 a.m.

As a relatively new resident of Las Vegas, the only thing I know about Nina Radetich is that a big deal was made when she joined the staff at Channel 13 some months ago. Apparently she is considered a ratings booster.

Based on the Las Vegas Sun story appearing Saturday, Ms. Radetich’s actions and Channel 13’s response to them raise questions about the veracity of any stories aired by the news department. This is disgraceful behavior. Claiming a lack of judgment diminishes the professionalism of all the people connected to the news operation and management, whether warranted or not.

At a time when the news media are under constant scrutiny and considered by many to be biased and corrupt as never before in my lifetime (I’m a former television news reporter), this adds to the cynicism and is a stain on the profession.

My knowledge of Ms. Radetich’s background and training is limited, but even a “cub” reporter should know what is ethical and what is not. Using her influence and position for personal gain is reprehensible.

Perhaps Ms. Radetich has witnessed so much corruption in this community she doesn’t have the judgment necessary to report the news.
