Tickets on sale for 31ers Reunion
Tickets are on sale for the 54th Annual 31ers Reunion Luncheon at noon Oct. 10 at the College of Southern Nevada's Boulder City center, 700 Wyoming St.
The event will be expanded this year to include an educational outreach showcase of the Boulder Canyon Project that will open at 10 a.m. It will include a display of historic photos and other material and give visitors an opportunity to speak with families of the 31ers, those who moved to Boulder City in 1931 to work on the construction of the Hoover Dam.
Educational outreach presentations will follow lunch, at 1 p.m.
Tickets are $20 per person. Those who purchase their tickets by Oct. 5 will be guaranteed lunch.

Museum talk to focus on Helen Stewart
The Boulder City-Hoover Dam Museum will host a talk by Professor Fran Campbell of the College of Southern Nevada for a talk on Las Vegas pioneer Helen J. Stewart at 6 p.m. Sept. 17 as part of its Third Thursday at the Museum series.
The talk will be given in the museum, which is located inside the Boulder Dam Hotel, 1335 Arizona St., and light refreshments will be served.
Stewart, sometimes called the First Lady of Las Vegas, was pregnant with her fifth child when she became a widow in 1884 after her husband was killed in a gun fight at the Kiel Ranch. She became a successful business woman, was the first lady elected to the Clark County Board of Education, served as postmaster from 1883 to 1903 and operated the family ranch until she sold it to the San Pedro, Los Angeles, and Salt Lake Railroad for $55,000 in 1902.

Elementary schools to hold yard sale
Martha P. King Elementary School, 888 Adams Blvd., will host a yard sale 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 26 in the school parking lot.
Items for sale will include clothes, furniture, toys, books, kitchen items and music.
The event is a fundraiser for both King and Andrew Mitchell elementary schools. All leftover items will be donated to a local charity.
Those who wish to donate items can drop them off at the school until Sept. 24. Smaller items can be dropped off in Room 37, Monday through Friday, between 7 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Larger items such as furniture can be dropped off the day of the sale.

Barbershop chorus to perform at library
The Gamble-Aires barbershop chorus will appear in a special twilight concert at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 19 at the Boulder City outdoor amphitheater next to the Boulder City Library, 801 Adams Blvd.
The program also will feature the chorus' three quartets, Broadcast, The Four Suits and Older n' Dirt in a prelude to the kickoff of the Gamble-Aires' 50th anniversary celebration next year.
The concert is free, and attendees are encouraged to bring blankets to sit on and picnic dinners.
A voluntary "pass-the-hat" contribution will be solicited after the show.

New business network forming
LeTip International, a professional leads organization, is forming a Boulder City chapter.
The first meeting of LeTip of Boulder City will meet at 7:16 a.m. Sept. 22 at Boulder Creek Golf Club, 1501 Veterans Memorial Drive.
Information about how the group works with personal referrals will be given. Only one business category is represented in the chapter, and conflicts of interest are not allowed. For more information, call 497-3902.
Sponsors sought for police event
The Boulder City Police Department and the local Police Protective Association are looking for business sponsors for a "home run derby" they are putting on Oct. 24 at Veterans Memorial Park.
The Las Vegas Valley's best softball players will be invited to see how often they can hit one out of the park.
The Police Department is especially seeking sporting equipment manufacturers, sports drink and related companies to contribute goods, prizes and services.

City offers babysitting class
The Boulder City Parks and Recreation Department is offering a babysitting class at the Boulder City Youth Center Sept. 19 and Jan. 1.
This class, which meets 9:30-11 a.m., is designed for ages 8 and up and will teach students the essentials to start babysitting. There is a $20 registration fee. Instructor Debbie Barth will have students create a babysitting kit.
Register at the Recreation Center Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, call the Recreation Department at 293-9256.
Woman graduates from Pacific University
Sara Allender of Boulder City has graduated from Pacific University.
She graduated in May with a bachelor's degree in exercise science-motor behavior. The university is based in Forest Grove, Ore.
