Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2009 | 11:56 p.m.

Two people were critically injured Tuesday night when the car they were in veered into oncoming traffic on Tropicana Avenue, near Rainbow Boulevard, and collided with two other cars, Metro Police said.

A Chevrolet Malibu was headed east on Tropicana about 6:20 p.m. when it veered into the westbound lanes for unknown reasons and collided with a Mitsubishi Lancer and a Nissan Altima west of Treetrunk Lane, police said.

Jessica Caruso, 24, of Las Vegas, a passenger in the Chevrolet, and the driver, a 22-year-old man whose name was not immediately released, were taken to University Medical Center in critical condition.

The 26-year-old driver of the Mitsubishi and a 36-year-old passenger suffered minor injuries and were taken to Southern Hills Hospital, police said.

The driver of the Nissan, a 24-year-old woman, also suffered minor injuries. A 29-year-old man and a 5-year-old girl who were also in the car were not injured, police said.

The crash remains under investigation, Metro said.
