LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Obama does us proud with speech to kids

Sunday, Sept. 13, 2009 | 2:03 a.m.

Most of the editorials and letters to the editor that I have read are indicating that our schools, our children and our country are basking in the success of President Barack Obama’s Tuesday address to students.

The deafening silence coming from the anti-Obama, right-wing, psychobabble machine is exhilarating! It almost reminds me of our country when everyone was honored and proud when such an uplifting moment in our history was delivered by our leader.

Could it be possible that those who would have rather heard George W. Bush, for example, deliver his best advice to our children have started thinking? Or could the silence be the sound of groping for some sort of negative criticism?

The president’s message emphasized what can be accomplished through hard work, honesty and purpose by basing your goals on pride in yourself regardless of adversity. These qualities inspire others to be proud of you and what you accomplish.

It must surely have been felt deeply by adults who are responsible for this country’s welfare. It reminded me that I really miss having pride in leaders who put aside the interests of the party, the next election and the bank accounts, and truly represent the best interests of those who voted, not those who paid for their campaigns.

It becomes clearer every day that this president is on our side, and his efforts to correct the monstrous mess that he inherited are worthy of everyone’s support, and, yes, some positive commentary for a change.
