LETTER TO THE EDITOR:
Keep Earth clean — our lives depend on it
Sunday, Sept. 13, 2009 | 2:01 a.m.
My husband and I walk every day, and as we do we pick up trash. The majority of the litter is plastic bottles, plastic bags and junk from fast food restaurants. Hamburgers in the car, garbage out the window. Guess they don’t want to mess up the car.
Now we read an editorial in Thursday’s Las Vegas Sun, “A messy Pacific,” about a giant garbage patch, sort of a “soup” of confetti-size plastic bits that is twice the size of Texas floating in the middle of the deep ocean. “Yum, yum” say the marine species feasting on this toxic stew, which goes up the food chain to the dining room table to poison the family.
If you are aware enough to care, buy those cheap recycled cloth-type bags that you take with you to the grocery store and reuse over and over. Say no to plastic bags and plastic bottles and recycle what you do use.
Teach the kids: If you see trash when you are out and about, pick it up. It feels good and does wonders for the waistline.

I believe that most of the trash in this "garbage patch" originated from the Asia Pacific area.
Thanks Sandra, for giving us some ideas in reducing the amount of trash that appears to be everywhere. Speaking about everywhere... Where in the "cat hair' are all the cigarette butts coming from? They are everywhere...
Maybe if the government put a another tax on cigarettes, there would be enough money to fund health care reform. Oh, wait a minute, the President smokes, so that won't happen...
