FLASHPOINT:

Clueless as always, Gov. Gibbons

Sunday, Sept. 13, 2009 | 2:01 a.m.

So Gov. Jim Gibbons came to town last week with his reelection strategy now fairly evident: Pound lawmakers as the culprits for all of the state’s economic woes. Gibbons told several news outlets, including KVBC-TV, that the relatively small increase in payroll and sales taxes, which didn’t even go into effect until July, is responsible for the state’s continuing economic malaise. This is laughable on its face — although no news outlet laughed at him. “One of the great problems that we are seeing today is the result of the increase (in) spending by the Legislature and the increase (in) taxes. They were supposed to balance the budget, bring revenues up — and they are actually having the opposite effect,” he told KVBC. Seriously?
