Food drive planned for Emergency Aid
Wards of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will conduct a food drive to benefit Emergency Aid of Boulder City on Sept. 12.
Orange bags will be distributed to the homes of members of the Lakeview, El Dorado Valley, Black Canyon and Oasis Park wards.
Members are asked to fill them with goods for Emergency Aid. They will be picked up from 10 a.m. to noon on Sept. 12.
The nonprofit Emergency Aid provides food, rent and utility assistance to the homeless and others in need. It is the primary social service outlet in Boulder City.
Its food pantry needs canned meats, soups, pasta, canned fruits and vegetables, hot and cold cereal, baby food, diapers, personal hygiene items, etc. Please, no glass items.

The Homestead to hold anniversary fete
The Homestead at Boulder City, a nonprofit long-term care facility for the elderly run by the Volunteers of America, will celebrate its10th anniversary from 1 to 3 p.m. Sept. 10.
The facility, 1401 Medical Park Drive, is holding an open house for the public to visit with residents and take tours. It is a way for the facility to say thank you to the community for its support over the past 10 years, officials said.
Refreshments will be served, and a presentation ceremony will be held at 2 p.m.

Baptist Church offers free movie screening
Bethany Baptist Church, 210 Wyoming St., will hold a free screening of the movie "Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears a Who" at 7 p.m. Sept. 12.
Free popcorn will be served, and no offering will be taken.

B.C. police leaders meeting with public
The Boulder City Police Department will hold its monthly Talk to the Chief at 7 p.m. Sept. 16 at Starbucks Coffee, 1008 Nevada Highway.
Police Chief Thomas Finn or Deputy Police Chief John Chase chat with citizens on the third Wednesday evening of every month.

Theater trip to benefit Lend A Hand
Lend A Hand, a nonprofit group that provides services to the elderly and shut-ins, will sponsors a fundraising trip to Tuacahn, Utah, for a theater performance on Oct. 9. Twelve seats were remaining on the bus as of this week.
Tickets, which are $100, include reserved seating for a performance of "Annie," a dutch-oven dinner and round-trip motor coach. The group will leave the Vons parking lot in Boulder City at noon and return at midnight.

Volunteers sought for Art in the Park
The Boulder City Hospital Foundation is seeking volunteers to help with the annual Art in the Park fundraiser from now until the event Oct. 3 and 4.
The arts and crafts festival is one of Boulder City's biggest and oldest community events and the nonprofit hospital's major annual fundraiser.
Signups for volunteer shifts began Aug. 25 at the front desk of the Boulder City Hospital, 901 Adams Blvd. In addition, all volunteers need to fill out and turn in volunteer forms to receive T-shirts, which will be distributed Sept. 25.
Raffle ticket sales begin Sept. 4. Volunteers may pick up tickets to sell at the foundation office, 999 Adams Blvd., Suite 106.
Event volunteers are needed to set up Oct. 2, 3 and 4, to register artists as they arrive Oct. 2 and to work during and clean up after the event Oct. 3 and 4.
